Chris K/Anyone- Mirapex?

Posted by Greg on January 22, 2001, at 8:03:04

Chris,

You mentioned in a recent post that you had been started on Mirapex (I hope that name is correct as I can't find the post now). I had a few questions when you have the time.

Are you taking it for fatigue and if so, do you think that the fatigue is caused by the Zyprexa or whatever combo you may be taking? How is the Mirapex working for you? Does it cause you any anxiety (my biggest concern about an "activator")?

Cam is coming to my area for a visit in a few weeks and has offered to discuss some possibilities for dealing with my fatigue. I'm trying to gather some info so I can carry on a reasonably intelligent conversation with him about it.

Any help you or anyone can give me on Mirapex would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this finds you healthy, happy and doing well.

Greg

Greg ~

See the anergia thread -

natg posted a lot about her experiences with mirapex. she was taking it with risperdal, and she reports that it has really worked well.

hope this helps,

mars

hello, greg:
I'm on Risperdal and mirapex and the result has been pretty amazing.
i have no anxiety or social phobia- which used to be my biggest problem. i have a lot more energy, no more napping like i used to in the past.
i can honestly say it has lifted my depression immensily.
7-8 years of trying different drug trials , this has saved my life.

I wish you luck.
Nat

Hi Greg,

Things have gotten a lot better since I started Mirapex. I originally asked my doc for it because I had read here and elsewhere that it could help with anhedonia and apathy. After doing my research and showinf him that I was serious about trying it, he prescribed Mirapex at 1mg 3x/day. (titrated up to that level).

I have been taking Zyprexa for over 1 1/2 years so my body has pretty well adjusted to any of the sedating properties and weight gain.

I currently also take Wellbutrin (300mg) and Nortriptyline ( 100mg) but am considering dropping one or the other if the Mirapex keeps working well. I see my pdoc a week from today so I will discuss that with him.

I haven't found the Mirapex to be 'activating' to the point of causing any additional anxiety. Maybe the Zyprexa helps cancel out some of that? I feel more alert and more motivated to do the little things that I had been avoiding. I wouldn't necessarily call it extra energy but I am more alert and find that I tolerate situations which would normally cause me to "go into my shell."

Every couple of weeks I use this Depression questionaire to get a base for where I am.

http://mentalhelp.net/guide/dep2quiz.htm

My AD's have kept my score in the high 30's which is at best moderately depressed. I took the quiz yesterday and scored 25 which is a very significant decrease.

For more info try these:

www.biopsychiatry.com/pramipex.htm

www.parkinson.org/mxdepress.htm

They are some of the things I showed my pdoc from the web.

Good Luck and go ahead and ask more questions if you would like.

Chris

Mary, Nat and Chris,

I really appreciate the feedback on this. I've been thru so many drug trials recently that it a little unnerving to think about adding another one especially with the great results that I'm having with the Zyprexa/Neurontin combo. But I guess it couldn't hurt to talk it over with my doc and maybe give it a shot, right? It's just somedays the fatigue is easier to tolerate than others...kinda like life.

Thanks again,
Greg

Nat: What dosage of Risperdal and Mirapex? How long have you been on both?

Appreciate your feedback...

Karen

Just a note that studies have shown the best effect with Mirapex is generally seen with doses of 1.5 to 2mg. taken three times a day. Domperidone (available overseas) controls the transient nausea.

Glad to hear the Mirapex is working for the two of you and I look forward to further updates.
