Suggestion for Medication

Posted by DM on December 8, 2000, at 9:59:32

I have tried several antidepressants and had to quit because of side effects. The ones I tried were Paxil (weight gain and tiredness and no sex drive), Wellbutrin (weight gain and tiredness) and Trazadone (too sleepy). Does anyone have any suggestions for anything different which might not produce these effects yet still be an effective antidepressant?
Thanks.

Paxil is known for weight gain. I gained a lot of weight and felt quite lethargic while I was on it.

Have you tried Prozac? I personally think it is the most energizing SSRI. As far as weight gain is concerned, everybody is different. I didn't put on weight on Wellbutrin but it made me tired and depressed.

Good Luck, I hope you find something that helps.

Hi DM,

Been through this. See my post on Modrafinil/Provigil.

Good Luck!

Ones that previously helped me are: celexa, effexor xr, imipramine, prozac, vivactil, trazadone. Now I'm on effexor and paxil. Some of the side effects take time to wear off and some of the meds. seem to quit working sometimes, too. For me it's been trial and error. Side effects vary with the individual, too. At times you may have to adjust the dosages, too. Good luck. Therapy with an antidepressant is your best bet, too.
