Have I ruint my pore liver ?

Posted by shar on November 17, 2000, at 21:53:04

I was telling a friend of mine that I haven't experienced withdrawal symptoms from changing AD's (about 4-5 changes over a few years). She said my liver was probably shot, or I would be feeling symptoms.

So, is my liver maybe not processing toxins (or whatever it does) and the toxins/residues/etc. are just floating around in my body? How might I know if I had liver problems? (My docs have never said anything when reviewing my blood tests, etc.)

Thanks for input,
Shar

James here...

Bull**** ! Junk science ! With few exceptions AD's are easy for your liver to process. A liver function test, a blood test, would indicate you liver was fine. Actually if your liver was really shot you would know it, as yor body would be full of toxins and you would feel awful. There is no logic to her argument, having a shot liver would not effect withdrawal symptoms. I don't get them either and have a very healthy liver.

Absolutely! That's got to be it, since you show the number one sign of liver damage: silly spelling!

I'm with stjames here, you'd have other symptoms. Let's see, the liver is kinda like a filter, so you'd feel like a walking talking container of toxic waste. You'd probably change color, for that glowing yellowish look, and you'd have other symptoms as well.

I'm not the expert here, but expert enough to know that something as serious as liver damage would show up in many more ways than that.

As for that, I've had terrible withdrawals from Effexor when I've run out. I've had to go through withdrawal from Xanax after only about six weeks of taking it. I've had withdrawal from vitamins, for crying out loud! But I had no withdrawal from Paxil, which is said to have nasty withdrawal. None from Serzone, except immediate relief from the side effects. None from long term darvon use (prescribed by a doctor, who was a real winner: 17 years old, osteoarthritis in several major joints, what does he do? Darvon, no exercise, no anti-inflammatories, no suggestions for protecting the joints. Darvon. And they gave him a license? No wonder they call it "Practicing" medicine!!!)

There's my rant. Don't worry. Your liver told me it's fine, though it would like a nice glass of wine once in a while...

Hi Shar,

I'm going through this myself. Blood test will show elevated enzyme levels in my case which indicates an inflamed liver. I also was diagnosed
a few years ago with epstein barr and showed high
levels on one of the test.

I've been tested for hepatitis, blah, blah, blah,
and so far nothing.

I've read that your medication, doseage, is usually changed if there is indication of liver
problems, and I've read many things can contribute
to this. I have to wait 2 months to get an ultra
sound to determine whether I have a fatty liver.
I've been doing some research on this.

For the time being, I'm using NAC and milk thistle
which I use in liquid form and add it to tea along
with goldenseal and echincea. I've also read
L-gluthione is a very powerful antioxidant.

Every place I've gone is sold out. NAC converts
to L-gluthione.

Before the depression problem can be controlled,
the physical problem for me is the root cause.

I think this is the reason things, ie, effexor
give me a bad physical reaction.

Pray for the answer.

Best to you and everyone.

Sassy
if there are liver problems
