BIPOLAR MALE 20 YEARS=MEDICINES?

Posted by Claude Haim on November 10, 2000, at 11:39:54

Dear Drs=
My 20 years old son had been diagnosed as bipolar 3 months ago starting with a manic state.
Since 1 month he is in deep depression with suicide thoughts and no action about it.
He is in therapy with a psychiastrist that medicates him.
After changing some medicines he is now in=
A)Depakote 500 mgs x 1 cap(night) daily.
B)Lithium 300 mgs x 3 caps daily.
C)Inderal 10 mgs x 2 caps daily.
D)Risperidone 2 mgs x 1 daily.

He left Wellbutrin SR 150 mgs x 2 caps daily because last saturday he did convulsions for one minute.
He left also Rivotril(tooked last 2 months) last week.
Can someone tell me if this quantity of medications is safe?at the same time=is it the right medicine?
Thanks a lot,
Claude

Yes, it is safe.

If he is bi-polar and it is not a misdiagnosis, then he's properly medicated.

Best of luck, and best wishes

Claude,

Those look like reasonable dosages of fairly typical medicines prescribed for people diagnosed with bipolar.
