Hi..I was taking prozac for almost a year...started with the standard dose, then up to 30 mg/day. When I decided to come off of it, my doc took me off slowly, but I found myself making another appointment to get more. It's been about a month since taking any, and I am right back to where I was before the drug. My mood swings scare me, and I know my kids don't like me right now..and I'm not sure how my husband puts up with me either. I don't sleep..I'm gaining weight..and very irritable. Anyone else out there that has stopped and is thinking about going back?

I took prozac for about 7 years and it worked very well for me. I only took 20 mg a day. I quit prozac about 6 months ago due to sexual side effects. I tried wellbutrin and it only made me feel worse. I considered many other ADs but ruled them all out due to potential side effects. I'm especially concerned with weight gain and liver problems. I started taking St John's Wort 3 months ago and I finally feel better. It took a long time for me to feel the effects but I had read that SJW had to be taken for a atleast 6-8 weeks to get any benefits, so I stuck with it. Also, I started on a low dose, 300mg twice a day and then I increased it to three times a day and felt a significant improvement. At this point, I've decided not to go back on prescription ADs. I would have liked to give Sam-e a fair trial but it was just too expensive for me as a poor college student.
