This board used to be so much better

Posted by Rob on March 8, 2000, at 22:25:04

There's so much clutter now. Too much rambling. Lack of useful responses to serious queries.

Is it just me?

Yes...does seem to be a little more "chatty" lately. I find myself going into a few more threads with vague titles and thinking to myself that the discussions are sounding more like a "CHAT" room - you know, very little exchange of substance.

There are still threads that seem more goal oriented but fewer than I can remember a few months back.

Sorry.

Oops, sorry. I just added to the clutter by mistakenly mistakenly posting my message to you as a new thread. Please read "If you don't like it..." Renee N

minds are like parachutes

i think "better" is definately a subjective adjective. different people value different things, and, as in any community, there needs to be a little give and take.
i find that some responses are extremely informative for the factual or theoretical information they give, while others are informative in a more personal way....just a linking among people who have been misunderstood for too long. some raise interesting points or questions. some bore me. which is why, here, like in any community, i've the choice to become involved (by reading or posting) or to walk away. it is easier to honor others' values when you have this choice.

Well excuse me for rambling. since I don't know that much about medications and the brain, I usually try to post supportive responses. If that cramps your style...sorry. After all this is open to anyone that wants to use, no.

No, it's not just you, I find it be less helpful
than before as well...It seems like it's happened
within the last 4 or 5 months--what do you think?

Hey, if anyone is to blame for chattiness--cmon you guys, you know I am a prime suspect.

Anyone feel like performers suddenly being reviewed? I mean, Rob and Alan, I haven't seen much participation from you and all of a sudden you are complaining. Jump in, start a thread that is more to your liking, specify you want to stay on topic for that thread.

I LOVE both the info and the comeraderie here, so I don't think this board is any worse.

Yes...all I hear from you is bitch, bitch, bitch, whine, whine, whine.

Try reading some of the posts by Cam W., she is great. If you open a thread that is not to your liking then sorry in advance for wasting 2 seconds of your life.

This board has definitely evolved from its early days. The increased "babbling" is not necessarily a bad thing, Rob. This site still remains the most substantive and best resource for psycho-pharm info on the net. The "chattiness" is the natural evolution of a site that has made a deep impact on many peoples' lives. Some people have decided to use this forum as a primary social outlet. Babbling must logically ensue...

I am new to this board, so I don't know what it used to be like. I know I have put up some tounge in cheek posts, but sometimes it gets so serious in here. I think humor has a definite spot in recovery. If you can't laugh about it all, we would all go crazy! (a few of us have!!) I have learned much here and will continue to check in probably daily and post and respond when I see fit.

It is always fascinating to me to observe responses to a relatively simple stated observation. Such a wide variety - from empathetic to openly hostile - interestingly all adding up to be more reflective of the respondents themselves.

I think we should each babble as much or as little as we like.

After all, it *is* Psycho-Babble...

You know, I just hate seeing all these messages of self-blame, particularly when they are soooooo unsubstantiated. Sometimes, we are our worst enemies.

And you know, James, I thought Cam was a "she", too, until he started using males pronouns wrt himself. The only Cam I knew before Cam W was a "Cammy" ... still can't figure out what they might be nicknames for.

Remember those Babbleland watchwords -- Your Mileage May Vary. Applies just as much to what is written here as it does to what meds you take. For some people, particularly those who don't have a stack of Reader's Digests in their bathrooms, laughter simply may not be the best medicine. No one is out there twisting anyone's arm to read everything here ... but I know dese guys in Brooklyn, see, and it can be arranged...fuggedabowdit!

For the old-timers ... remember the suggestion of the Rating System for responses? The little codes to pop in the subject line so folks would know what the content was about?

Aren't you glad THAT idea died a quiet death?

Sheesh.

Now, as to the matter of responsibility. The first two respondents say things were better a few months ago. That's when **I** dropped out of sight. **NOW**, they say things have gone down hill and, wouldn't you know it, I'm back.

Stop trying to cheat me of my well-deserved guilt!

cheers,
bob

"This is a bulletin board for mutual education and support." What's rambling to one person may be support to another. I think lots of serious queries receive useful responses, but unfortunately not every question is going to be able to be answered. Even here! :-)

Dear Nostalgia Buffs....

The stated purpose of this board is "information and support"; I believe that an objective evaluator would place nearly all of the posts in that category. Oddly, among those that DON'T seem to fit, are yours.

What IS your purpose in posting? I hope that it isn't to discourage those whose mesages you dislike; that would be such an uncharitable goal, when it is so simple to selectively browse for those posters you do value.

We will trust that your future contributions to Psychobabble will be more substantive and more...on target.

medlib

PS- Somehow, it seems entirely appropo that, in this digital domain, the time frame for nostalgia can be measured in months, not years or centuries. Ah, progress.
