Zoloft and fibromyalgia

Posted by Missie on March 3, 2000, at 13:50:57

I started Zoloft a month ago, on the advice of a friend that Prozac was not good. My dr. said Zoloft was good. He also said that I probably have fibromyalgia because of some of the complaints that I described. Does anyone take Zoloft to treat their fibro and how are they doing? I am also looking for non-drug therapies to try as my dr. wantsw to try to take me off the Zoloft later this spring. Any info on diet, exercise, etc...? Hoping to hear answers soon. Thanx, Missie

Did your doctor specifically say that Zoloft may help the fibromyalgia? I have never heard that before (which doesn't mean it's not true). I would also be interested in finding out more.

Dear Cass;
My dr. was treating me for depression with Prozac and I was having some side effects like I walked around like a zombie most of the time, and I would cry at the drop of a hat. He began to think that my problem might not be just depression when I said that I had constant aching in my back, shoulders, and knees. I asked about Zoloft on the advice of a friend. Doc said it's almost the same as Prozac, only with fewer side effects. Ask your dr. Let me knowthe opinion. My e-mail address is tinlizzieb@go.com

Yes, Zoloft is used for fibrmyalgia. I have a sister and a friend with the disorder and they are both on 150mgs of Zoloft. They still have all the aches and pains of it, but both have said it has been relieved some by it.

Just a quick note to Missie

My husband started taking Zoloft for pain associated with Fibromyalgia and is working wonders! We had a hard time finding a doctor that would even diagnose him but that is another story. If Zoloft works for you, why even go off of it. Give it a good fighting chance!

Good Luck!
Stacey

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about 5 years ago. Alot of the people on the support lists take antidepressants but haven't heard that Zoloft in particular helps, this is good news.:o) Another thing you all out there with Fibro and depression might look into is having your amalgams (silver fillings) replaced with composite(white) ones. There is a ton of info and seems a real connection with mercury poisoning and Fibro, Chronic Fatigue and Autism. Food for thought...
