"New" Feature

Posted by Snowie on January 6, 2000, at 21:47:57

I need some tech help! I just bought this new and improved computer with Internet Explorer 5.0. For some reason, I'm don't see the "New" yellow indicators for new posts that I haven't read, although my old computer showed them. Any clues as to what I can do to fix that? This is a new computer, so I don't understand why I can't see them. Feel free to answer me here or email me.

Thanks!

Snowie

This may sound basic, but have you tried to reload the page and/or re-boot?

Blessings,

Yeah, but that wasn't it. I finally played around with my computer and found some Java stuff that hadn't been checked. I checked them and now everything is fine! Thanks.

Well, it doesn't work fine. When I just added that post, everything went away. Oh, well.

Yes, you needed Javascript turned on. And whenever you redisplay (reload, refresh, etc.) the main page, the indicators reset. Hmm, maybe it would be nice to have a way to un-reset them...

Thanks for the info. Dr. B. At least I now know that my computer is acting normal. I won't refresh until I've checked all the "New" posts I am interested in.

Dr. Bob -- what about real time chat here?

You may have seen posts about this from the Christmas period. Have you given it any consideration? Would this be realistic?

(OK folks, now's the time to let him know!)

Chat rooms are great ideas. Here, it may take away from some of the posting (not sure?) also, If a chat were to start, sometimes they move so fast, with certain disorders, it would be hard to keep up with. One option would be to break it down into different categories? Again, as I have said before, I do not want to disrupt the success of this forum, but I'm (as well as Dr. Bob) open to suggestions. Blessings,

S. Suggs

Hey Zeke, chats have been suggested a few times before, some of us are pro and some are con. I can't remember Dr. Bob's opinion, but it seems to me that he either did not give one or did not think chats *could* be done here or something.

Anyway, I will go on record as a "pro" chat. I could be wrong, but it seems as if they could be set up and then people who weren't interested wouldn't have to join. I don't think that chats would take away from this board, I know I would still come here everyday, as I appreciate all the information I find and I want to keep helping those who can benefit from my experiences with all this stuff.CarolAnn
