I'm not very familiar with NYC, but I think the location of the coferences is walking distance from Grand Central Station. Maybe there is a coffee shop or restaurant in the Hotel that wouldn't be too crowded? Or another place you're familiar with? I would hate a reenactment of the "line" in Boston! :o)

I agree, let's not have a repeat of Boston!

Would Tuesday be a possibility? I wouldn't think a place in the hotel would be too mobbed. But I don't really know. Would lunch (ie, something during the day) be doable?

Registration is free! Intel has enough money already. :-)

Well, the next big psychology meeting will be there, but not until next August. Do you want to be in charge of finding us a nice place? :-)

Sure, but I'll need a reminder close to the time. If you've read my posts, you know I am not the most organized person.:)

Hey, not a bad idea. Something unique, perhaps designed by some of our posting artists? I'll bet someone could capture the spirit of this great site! I for one would buy one. Dr. Bob can start a new career!!!

I'm not too good with places around Midtown East, put I would think that it is pretty crowded around there most of the time. How about downtown, around Astor place NYU... That would be some 30 blocks from Grand Central.
You know of any places you'd think we would be comfortable in, Anita... Or anyone.

Anyway, I don't know what I was saying anbout the place where we could be comfortable. I have yet to find such a place on this planet ;-D={

Well, I know of a large (believe it or not!) cafe in Soho (downtown area) that usually has empty tables. It's kinda trendy, but not oppressively. Dr. Bob, if
this NYC meeting sounds like it might happen, I can provide the name (which I've forgotten) and address of this cafe and directions to it.

SoHo sounds good to me.
(by the way, I work on Mercer off Hudson... If you need me to check the name or address of that place on my break, let me know)

Guess it kinda depends on how many folks will
show up. But that cafe in SoHo sounds nice,
Anita. Certainly a better option than romping up
towards 57th Street with Hard Rock, Planet
Hollywood, Motown, and (near by) the Harley-
Davidson cafes.

The only other thing I can think of that would
easily accommodate a group is for everyone to
meet at one location, hop over to a deli like
Schlotskis (sp?), then corner some territory
in one of the many public spaces in Midtown,
like the one in the Sony Building.

Another idea--Calfornia Pizza Kitchen. True,
it's not very New York ....

Yet another idea--we could meet for breakfast and
get a front rail position at the Today show. And
we could give Katie, Matt, Ann, and Al one of
those soon-to-be-hot-fashion-statement Dr. Bob
t-shirts -- free gifts is a foolproof way of
getting on camera.

Cheers,
Bob

That would be fine with me. But it couldn't be for lunch on Tuesday, then, since I wouldn't have enough time to get back and forth. So after the conference?

I have a friend from this International Society for Mental Health Online, a psychologist, he lives in NYC and might be interested. How would that be? If people don't want to open this up, that would be perfectly understandable and OK with me, too.

What time does the conference end? I for one don't mind opening it up. How many people do you think would show up, from PsychoBabble and elsewhere? Maybe we can get a head count?

Sorry, I won't be able to make it in the evening. I'll wait for the Philadlephia stop on the World Tour. I volunteer to host that visit. Philly seems much easier to navigate. Everything is very central. I'd still like to buy a t-shirt though. :o)

Well, the cafe I was thinking of is called Space Unlimited. It is at 133 Greene St., which is between West Houston and Prince Sts. It is about halfway down the block on the right side if you're walking south. If anyone needs detailed directions or nearest subways, just email
me at neetie@erols.com. I assume it's on Tuesday, Oct. 12, but Dr. Bob hasn't mentioned a time yet. I'd be willing to get there a little early and grab a table and maybe put some sort of sign up so people know where we all are.

Does this sound feasible Dr. Bob?

Gosh Anita - I can't wait to see what that sign will say! "Psychiatric Patients' Table" Way to clear out a corner!

Down in SoHo? I dunno ... it might actually draw a crowd. Maybe we could bill ourselves as some sort of impromptu avant-garde theatre group and pass a hat for donations ... it could pay for the coffee, etc. =^P

Yeah, it is Space Untitled, sorry! BTW, very funny re. the sign -- actually I was thinking of something
simple, like "Crazy People's table". ;-)

Looks nice! Sure, let's meet there on Tuesday, October 12. When? The last event at the meeting is:

5:30 pm-6:30 pm
Reception and Technology Showcase

I don't know how long it would take me (and others who are there) to get down to SoHo. Estimates?

Directions to "Space Untitled" from GCS*

Posted by Bob on September 17, 1999, at 12:35:01

In reply to Re: "Space Untitled", posted by Dr. Bob on September 17, 1999, at 0:00:20

*dj -- that's Grand Central Station. ;^)

From there, take the 4 or 5 subway downtown to 14th Street/Union Square. That's just one stop on the express lines (4 or 5). Taking the local (the 6) will take quite a bit longer, and the scenery ain't worth it.

At Union Square, transfer to the N/R line downtown. Two stops later, you'll be at Broadway and Prince Street (Prince runs E/W, roughly).

Walk west down Prince Street two blocks. That, according to MapQuest, should be Greene Street, and you should turn right on Greene to get to Space Untitled.

BTW for out-of-towners: The subway now has one-day unlimited ride passes called Fun Passes. They cost $4 -- $1 more than two tokens, so if you're going to use the subway or buses 3 or more times in one day, its worth it. The only problem is the subway booths don't sell them (DOH!) ... you can check with your hotel's concierge. They're sold at places tourists go ... shops and bodegas and places like that.

(those more familiar with SoHo, please correct these directions if I got them wrong!)

Cheers,
Bob

If it ends at 6:30, my experience with conferences says that means the earliest you'll be leaving is 6:45-7 with all the last minute discussions that go on.

The subway ride will be really quick. I'd say 7-7:15 for some of us locals who aren't attending, so we can grab some space for those coming a little later. I'm happy to be on the table-squatters committee, if necessary .... =^)

Cheers,
Bob
