Experience with effexor

Posted by Ellen Brodie on May 24, 1999, at 15:27:04

My doc just started me on effexor. 37.5 mg. time released. I am also taking topomax and klonopin. I am bipolar. She told me to take it at night to help me sleep. Well, it helps me sleep, but at 8:30 the next morning. She has now told me to take it earilir in the day since it appears to be an 11 hour time release. What has been others experience with this drug. I have heard ggod things abaout it in terms of it being an anit-depressent but I am a zombie all day. How long does this sode effect last. i take 150mg of effexor xr in the morning when i wake up and have never experienced any zombie like effects during the day. if, if fact, it's taking 11 hours to make you sleepy, it might make sense for you to try taking it in the a.m. as well.
when do you take your other meds?
i also take topamax... 50mg at 7-7:30pm... interestingly, i think it helps me fall asleep a few hours later

hope this helps...

I have been on Effexor for years, it is the only medication that helps my depression. It never made me tired, in fact it is somewhat energizing to me. I had nausea initially with it, that went away in about 2 weeks. I am on a huge dose now, 600 mg per day, I had relapses on lower doses.

Dear ann,
what made you (and your doc) decide to go up to 600mg effexor? Effexor was initially helpful to me but after going upto 400mg without positive results, we decided to give up on it.
