Obsessed with OCD

Posted by Giogia on February 17, 1999, at 19:27:02

I have recently been diagnosed with OCD by my psychotherapist of 6 years. I have been showing symptoms since an early age, some of which were incredibly strange (fear of crumbs?!?). After many sessions with my doctor, she decided that my OCD was purely physiological, not the result of any outside influence. She reffered me to a psychiatrist who could perscribe medication for me, but I haven't made it in to see him yet. My constant intrusive thoughts make life harder, and it's even more difficult to explain to peolpe exactly what it is I have without sounding crazy, or worse, having them think I am lying. Lately my obsession has actually been OCD itself, I constantly worry that everything I do is going to be another symptom showing up out of the blue. I haven't met many people with OCD, and it's difficult to talk about it sometimes. I was wondering if anyone else has this same problem: Obsession with their 'disease'. It would be nice to be able to talk to someone who is experiencing the same things as I am.

I personally have some OC issues, but not this particular one. I will say, though, that through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and medications (like Prozac or Luvox), you can experience signficant relief from your OCD.

Good luck with it. :)
