Oh, I wasn't saying he is or isn't nearer the healthy end of the spectrum, Alexandra. My point is just that I don't know and I'm guessing, unless a poster has a personal relationship with Dr. Bob, that none of us know. Just as we don't know the level of mental illness, if there is any, of any given poster unless they have told us, which I don't believe Dr. Bob has (correct me if I'm wrong, though).

That said, I believe all posts should remain civil no matter who the post is directed to or about.

Kind of a moot point, though, since we don't agree on the civility of the original post. Sometimes I just like to hear myself think, I guess :).

Take care,
Laurie

I encourage conflict, dissent, and negotiation across the leader-members boundary. I'd rather it didn't get *too* hot, of course...

Just to be clear, neither do I.

I was just questioning the civility of her words. I wasn't judging her character or intent.

I apologise if it sounded like I was accusing you of judging Jai's intentions.

I do think that intentions come to bear on the civility of words, however...

But I also take your point.

Hi, I have just gotten back to babble.
My week was way too filled with a local fire.
I have gotten side tracked.
Dr. Bob I am so sorry if my little story has offended you.
I had no intent to do so.
I rather like Dr. Bob.
I would never want to hurt him.
I thought it would amuse him.
so All Done....
I am so sorry if it hurt your feelings.
Now that wouldn't make me happy.
Or you tofu emmy....
I am not into making you-all feel bad.
I was being silly and letting my mind drift into the imagination to make up a story of why I would be in his shoes.
a total projection.
I watched the ants as a child and was totally facinated.
So my story did not stimulate other stories....
oh well.

Slinky....
where are you when I need you?

It didn't come across to me as cruel at all,
I thought it was a whimsical story like Ferdinand the Bull who was always off sniffing the flowers.
I know Jai's always made a point of saying really nice things about Dr. Bob on admin too unlike say.. me, so perhaps that made me see it differently too.

I'd say I thought it was sweet, too, but coming from me, I figure Dr. Bob would then decide there MUST be something offensive hidden in it. ;) Atticus

Just shows to go ya, we all interpret art differently. For example:

I don't think we interpreted the entire text differently. I specifically took one passage from the whole which I saw as dark humor, yes, at other times I find the same selection poignant, the rest of the piece I spoke with Jai about in an e-mail, and I mentioned that when I'm my most upset my humor still finds it way out.
It's impossible for me to see how the whole work could be seen as funny, it was simply the passage I chose to focus on.

I suppose if it was offensive that I pointed out that I found the lines about inhaling a missing cat darkly humorous in an otherwise serious and painful piece, I apologize. I won't apologize for finding it funny though, life is painful and funny simultaneously, it just didn't occur to me that prose shouldn't be.

I have a fascination with things that disappear.
One minute they are whole the next they are gone.
My art revolves around that magical, mysterious fact.

Imagine everything you own gone in an afternoon.
The tenants stood watching their possessions go up in smoke.
My mind asks "how is that possible?"

I am not offended by you seeing humor in my piece.
I chuckled when you pointed it out in your comment.

This should be on writing, but oh well,

Yes, the first time I read it, I saw it as just plain funny, but the next day, I thought about it more which is what good writing does, and then it became more poignant, all these important things.. vaporized, as you said.
It was brilliant though, I think, really brilliant that it could go from absurd to mystical to melancholy that one paragraph.

But thank you so much for letting me know that you weren't suprised, or offended that I found it darkly comical.

Perhaps it did.

You didn't hurt my feelings. And I don't want you to be unhappy. I just thought there might have been the potential to hurt another's feelings. Had it been written about me, my own history would have made your words hurt and since I don't know Dr. Bob's history, well...let me stop there.

BTW, my T tells me I tend to try and mother him. I think I do this with many people. Maybe unfortunately for Dr. Bob, he was my latest "offspring" :).

Thanks for the nice post, Jai. I know you didn't mean any harm.

OK, let's give this a try. It should be working now. Sorry about all the testing I had to do... To turn it off, there's a new setting:
