we need then all ... ... it is just that with enough serotonin we aren't as likely to kill anybody ... ... maybe ?

Arriana - Can I ask what dosage you are on and how long you have been on Lex? I am at 8 months and reallt struggling with anxiety and upset after 6 great months. I am considering - at my docs suggestion - upping from 10 to 20 mgs. I would really appreciate and input you all have.

Thank you all!! I went back on the Effexor and off the Lexapro and the withdrawl stopped immediately. I had no problems when I first started the Effexor in the very beginning and was started on 150mg. But the Lexapro didn't get the job done with all the side effects from the withdrawl off the effexor. I'm fine now but the funny part is my doctor never figured it out, as withdrawl until I slipped it in from all your great advice. That's frightening! Thank all of you again for your help. For some people this withdrawal lasts for months and months. Now doctors are jumping from med to med. The symptoms or side effects are blamed on the new med. The doctor doesnt know, the patient doesnt know, this is very sad. People come to this board all the time with the same problem. They think its lexapro!!! Some times it is the lexapro. But in my heart I believe its withdrawal. Your lucky you found this board and figured it out for yourself. If you ever go off your med, there are guides on the web to help. The best way is to wean yourself off slowly. I do mean very slowly!!!!!!! Im glad you posted with an update and am going to put this whole post in my favorites. Glad you recovered so quickly. I know how scared you were. Ive been there myself, it is truly hell. Especially when you have no clue why its happening to you!!! TAKE CARE!!!

Hi, I notice you and Gal are complaining about anxiety well after you both started lexapro. I relate to the numbness and hot feeling and anxiety of course. But it would be hard for me to answer because I started with panic attacks and anxiety. It could be the body just going through an adjustment period to the med. I have another idea but really dont want to share it because its just stuff I read and my own thoughts. People have complained about this on all boards time to time. But they disappear and you never know how things worked out. Maybe Jim has run across some old posts we can look at. But I do have one question!!!!! Do you notice around your neck and face redness that never leaves since starting lexapro? TAKE CARE!!!!

Hi Wayne, thanks for some feedback:-) I haven't had the redness around my neck and face from the Lexapro. If I scratch my neck or I blush, I get red, and it seems to stay longer~but very rarely.
I know you're not menopausal! Maybe it's still your anxiety/nerves, but the Lexapro is helping physiologically, but still shows up as redness physically? Just a thought.......
Now....R U sure that your redness around your neck wasn't from wearing the garlic the other night ;) HA!
Anyway, you also said that you had another idea, but sounded hesitant to share it. I'm very intersted in that if you don't mind posting it? If you don't want to post it, you're welcome to email me~let me know k?

I didn't get redness but I sure had an itchiness on the back of my head and then I got a rash on both shins. Maybe I was just taking too much. I don't know. But I stopped and eventually the rash went away.

Hi to all of you. I am making my first post here today but have been following the writings for days now. I am in day 25 on Lexapro and have been having some good days and some less than good days so far. I know from reading the posts from you guys that it takes a while to get there. The medication is trying to work but not quite there yet. Some background on me: 58 yr old male. Recovering alcoholic. Been sober for over ten years with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous. Self medicated with alcohol on a daily basis for 25 years. My then family doctor told me after researching the results of my blood test, that I would have to either live without alcohol or my liver. He said "the choice is yours". I knew more old drunks than I did old doctors so I gave up my doctor. After two more years of denial the alcohol quit working and I couldn't drink enough to stop the pain. I became an AA member and was shown how to live my life without the crutch of alcohol. It was nice to see the world with a clear head but bouts of depression and anxiety were nipping at my heels. After a year or so I sought medical help for it and was introduced to AD's for the first time. Some worked and some didn't but at least I found out that I didn't have to live that way....Thank God. More lately I have been on Paxil for several years and did well except for the weight gain. Back in July I spent several days at my cabin at a ranch where we spend time and forgetfully came home without my medication. It is over 300+ miles away so going back for it was not an option. I made the decision to make the best of a bad situation and declared myself drug free. Right,no more Paxil.
By the way I don't recommend the cold turkey withdrawal method that I used for anyone. I have been on an exercise program at the local health club since May and managed to lose 25+ lbs in the process. So I stayed with the exercise routine in hopes that it would help me to live my life without the help of AD's. After about 6 weeks off medication I began to notice those old familiar dark clouds forming overhead and slowly but surely my zest for life started to slooowwww dowwnnn. I know the signs all too well so I tucked my pride away and saw my p-doc and confessed what I had done. Doc told me about this new wonder drug Lexapro and suggested I give it a whirl. The rest is soon to be history so I am going to see how it goes. You don't know what a comfort it is to have this board to turn to when the days seem hopeless. I know that I will soon be back to feeling great and I will post as often as I can to help those who are struggling to understand that good will only come through persistence. My side effects have not been that terrible and couldn't even compare to some hang overs I've had back in the day. Lets keep on keepin on.

Welcome to the board jonny be good!! Sounds like the Lexapro has been treating you fairly well. Glad to hear your not suffering major SE's.

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with anxiety. Maybe it would be a good idea to try raising your dose.
I wish I could offer you more help, however, I've not gone through that yet. So far, the lex has been effective in treating my anxiety except for some very mild anxiety occasionally due to changes in my life, and not necessarily from the lexapro.
There have been other posts regarding this about raising the dose of lex, so maybe they could offer some insight, or others who read this and have experienced what your going through could add some feedback.
Can I ask: is there anything going on in your life that could be contributing to your anxiety? If so, maybe once that's worked through, your anxiety would lessen. If not, I think you'd be doing the right thing about going to your Doc.
What's everyone else think?

Haven't been drinking much water at all! Need to do that! I have Klonopin but only take 2mg at night. I hope I don't need to take more.

Yikes!!! I'm just getting a total nervous tummy, never felt this way before.
I've felt like you say here before, it could be anxiety or panic, or adjustment like jim said to the Lexapro still.
When does Lexapro stop *adjusting*!!!
