Keeping religion out of the medication forum

Posted by Oioioi123 on February 13, 2012, at 14:08:04

I mean no disrespect towards religious people, and if Jesus or god or whomever for that matter helped you through something then I think that's great. However I'm noticing a lot of posts regarding religion in the medication forum and the thing is we don't all share the same beliefs and to be honest I'm slightly offended/annoyed when I see someone reccomend a person needs Jesus in their lives. I don't push my beliefs o. Other people so I don't see why others should push there's on me. I just dont find it very respectful or in good taste. Just my opinion...

There is a Faith Board I'd recommend when you see a religious post you nicely ask the poster to post on the board Faith. Phillipa

i tried the jesus augmentation for a while too. and my psychiatrist is inidrecly recommending i get back to trying the jesus way to help me.

but, i think if someone truly thinks it helped them then i can understand why they would recommend it. but nowadays, when someone says i just need to put more faith in god to help me, i just see that as them saying they have no idea how to help.

Enough that It bothered me and I wanted to bring it up. People don't come to this part of the forum to hear, "accept Jesus in your life and you can start to feel better" they come for medication advice. I have seen at least a couple lately, and also others when scrolling through old posts. I don't think I need to point fingers, just wanted to maybe make people aware that others might not want to hear it

OK, I'm obviously Christian, so a part of me wants to say...so? The other part of me sees that telling someone to accept Jesus as a cure for mental problems isn't exactly helpful in most cases, nor would it necessarily be sufficient to get results (yes, Christians do take meds, too).

At least its an online forum. You can always ignore postings.

So? Why should I have others views pushed on me on a medication forum? I believe in evolution, but do you see me pushing that on people and telling them if they accept that way of thinking it might help their problems? There's a time and a place, and yes stuff can be ignored but it shouldn't have to be that way. Being Christian I'm sure your against gay marriage right? I'm sure there is gays on the forum, if they started pushing their views on that and talking about it would your answer be. So? Ignore it. I brought the issue up, it bothers me, as someone stated there is an actual forum for religion don't know why it can't be left there. I said my piece tho, and in done

I've noticed more lately also. I feel people need to push themselves to get well. Depends on where you live also. If in the US some parts of the country are strongly religious being originally from the North East it really didn't exist here in the South it seems to. I used to work as an RN in hospitals and witnessed it first hand. It's private to me like sexual orientation. I am not against what anyone choices to do. I'm pretty non predudice about all things. I feel the exact same way, it's a private matter and choice like sexual orientation. I am not prejudice and have no problem with religion, just don't like feeling like I'm having it pushed on me. Just one mans opinion, take it or leave it. But I feel like there's a time and a place and this isn't it

Religion is important and valuable for many. It's a valid response to the chaos and pain of life, especially mental illness, and it helps make bearable. I am an atheist but am fine with others talking about it. I agree that it isn't helpful to tell people to believe, because if you don't believe something, you don't--kinda like saying, don't worry, just be happy.

Discussion of religion is welcome here, but should take place at Psycho-Babble Faith. If something's posted here and we don't catch it, please use the "notify administrators" button to let us know. Thanks,

I think anybody should be allowed to suggest anything. I don't get offended if somebody says I just need more of x.

If I don't feel it applies to me there is a little x button at the top of the window.
