so sad and scared today

Posted by obsidian on April 19, 2010, at 17:26:00

so, I went to pdoc and said I'd like to get pregnant (this is not immediate mind you, but something I will surely regret if I don't do, and the years are passing quickly).

Well, he pretty much told me I'd have to get off of just about everything I'm on. I just got to this point, with a raise in lamictal and a decrease in effexor I've been feeling less depressed and less anxious.

I'm afraid of what will happen if I am off meds, and I've been crying on and off for most of the day. Maybe I'll be just fine off most medication, but the process of going off them would likely be daunting and an unpleasant roller coaster ride.

so screwed....

Have you been pregnant in the past, sid? I went off my medications to do so several years ago now, and actually found myself surprisingly un-depressed while pregnant, and even post-partum. Weaning my son was a different story - I wasn't prepared for the hormonal storm that caused.

I was planning on having the same conversation with my p-doc on Wednesday :)

I can imagine that it's incredibly scary to think about, especially once you've found a good mix of meds, but it's definitely doable.

sid, I did, too. Let's see. I took low dose something--it was over six years ago...jeez, maybe lexapro. Occasional low dose xanax for sleep. No mood stabilizer, so can't comment there.

I had similar experience as previous poster (I'm sorry to forget your name). I felt very good while pregnant--in fact, I look back and see it as a brief remission. Weaning was difficult. And then the meds began again in earnest.

Good luck--if that's what you want, sid, you can do it.

(Now having a child is chapter two. triggered and intensifies things for me; however, I have worked more ardently at recovery than ever--and I thought I was working before. Guess it balances out....just didn't want to promise you all roses :) )
