Bad pdoc appt

Posted by Dinah on January 15, 2009, at 11:53:32

Mind you, he's not my favorite person.

I was ten minutes late, and he almost refused to see me. His questions other than "are meds working ok" "any medication changes?" were all about my timeliness in general. I did tell him of the recurring deadlines at work and how tired and burnt out I was.

But whatever I said, he kept saying that at least I have a good sense of humor about it. I think maybe he was miffed I didn't show more distress over being late.

The fact was that I was in pure superficial mode. Not even rational me. Totally fake me. I was stressed, I was upset that I was late. I think I do try to keep a sense of humor, but I'm also dreading getting up every morning and wishing I could sleep forever. I'm weary, I'm burnt out. I'm stressed like crazy. I *was* upset about being late. I was upset about seeing him to begin with. He scares me.

I'm a bit upset with myself for how I presented myself to him. But there was no way I could be vulnerable enough to feel in front of him when he was clearly annoyed with me. Well, not even when he's not clearly annoyed with me.

Arrrgh.

Dinah isn't there a way for you to take some time off work? Not work on projects and just get Dinah back nice and stable. Oh I have different lifestyle but I do feel for you. Not working is stressful also. How bout we each work a little bit and then free time? I used to worry about being late too now realize it's okay. Sometimes. Love Phillipa

Ten minutes!? Come on.

Is he routinely on time? My pdoc is never less than 20 minutes late.

Dinah
Anyone who knows you knows you would be upset about being late, or so I think.

Well....

I confess I have trouble shifting gears so often run late. But I try not to be late for doctor appointments. Especially for scary doctor appointments. :)

He's *always* on time. He's the sort of person who would always be on time.

I wish I could find a cozier psychiatrist, but last time I looked the pickings were pretty slim. I seldom change my meds, so basically I go in for five minutes every three months and he refills my prescriptions, including my prescription for therapy. I liked my last pdoc better. I'd have thought they were very similar, but compared to this one my last one was positively warm.

It seems odd to have a pdoc I'm scared of. But around here they seem to be all meds and nothing but meds. Not nearly as friendly as internists.

I work for such a small place that a leave would be as bad as quitting for them. I've done the same thing for well over twenty years, and I'm the only one who really understands what I'm doing.

A friend of mine works for the same sort of place as I do, and she was fielding calls in the labor room.

It has advantages and disadvantages.

Forgive yourself for being late and reward yourself for making it at all. We all have those kinds of people in our lives who make us feel small and scared. Thank goodness you don't have to see them very often.

Yes, I am so thankful for that. I can take five minutes every three months.

My therapist doesn't like that I am so scared of my pdoc. He also is used to having some contact with his clients' psychiatrists apparently. He reminds me from time to time that I could try to find another one. But I figure I could be going from bad to worse.
