I know I'm being sensitive, but...

Posted by lucie lu on September 1, 2008, at 14:21:06

I havent been posting lately because while my T is away, I have been trying to put aside therapy and related issues for a while and focus more on my civilian life and recovery. I didnt expect a bandwagon when I posted again recently, prompted by concerns about Dinah and Gustav (thank you, Dinah, for your greeting; back at you). But what did make me uncomfortable and even a bit hurt, was Lemonaide's posts when Tamar came on. I can see shes an old and apparently good friend, Lemonaide. But it's not like I have never posted you either, and your response seemed a little insensitive. Imagine if you and another person happen to arrive at someones doorstep at the same time and the other person is greeted effusively, leaving you to feel like the newspaper someone forgot to pick up?

You are an expressive poster, Lemonaide, and I admire your exuberance. I'm sure you meant nothing more than a hearty welcome to a friend. You have been on the board for a long time, whereas I am still new. I know I can be overly sensitive. I know that no one can trigger something in me that wasnt already there and, as much as I don't like these feelings, I own them. I feel uncomfortable expressing these feelings, too. After 40 years (beyond school), youd think Id be over this! But after thinking about it, I thought it would be better to be honest and express how I feel. Something to talk about in therapy tomorrow when my T is back, I guess.

Urm...I dont' know either one of you, but maybe your post to Lemonaide would have been more appropriate if not publicly posted and sent to her "offline" instead. Sounds like something you guys needs to discuss via Babblemaail instead..

Hi Lucie,

Sorry your feelings were hurt.

I think Lemonaide was probably just surprised to see me posting, because I haven't posted in over a year. I'm sure she was very glad to see you too. She has a big heart.

And I don't think I've had the opportunity to talk to you before, since I've been away for a long time and you say you're new, so hello from me. I hope we can get to know each other.

Has your therapist been away long? Mine went away for a whole month in June and it was very hard to get through. I can imagine you're looking forward to seeing him tomorrow. I hope you have a great session.

Best wishes,
Tamar

Thanks, Tamar. I hope to get to know you too. You do sound like a good poster :)

My T has been gone a month. Even after 6 years, it is still hard to get through the weeks, and it undoubtedly has made me more sensitive to the feelings I wrote about. Part of what I have been working on in therapy has been to be emotionally honest, to try to work through things rather than just walk away as a defense mechanism. That was what I was trying to do in my post. One thing I have always liked about this board was the sense that we are all trying to grow and overcome our pasts. It can be hard. Anyway, I do look forward to getting to know you too and thanks for responding as you did.

All the best, Lucie

Hi, sweetie: i don't think there is such a thing as "too sensitive."

We feel how we feel. Our feelings are not right or wrong....they just are (and as you said): "need to be expressed."

I read a book, "The Extra-Sensitive Personality"---or something like that, and it fits me to a "t."

Hugs n Love, Sassy

Sassy, Thank you so much for your kind words. I needed that. I am pretty confused right now so I really appreciate the support.

Lucie

I am sorry, Lemonaide. You couldn't have known.

Lemonaide,

I want to apologize to you for my post yesterday, for making sensitivity (or lack of) even partly your issue instead of my own. That incredibly trivial thing about the posts triggered a powerful reaction in me, one that I could feel but not see. It caught me completely off-guard. I knew I was over-reacting and being hyper-sensitive, but I just couldn't put the pieces together. There was no way you could have known. (And I really do like your exuberance.)

Best, Lucie

p.s. I have that book too ;) (nm) sassyfrancesca

Hi Lucie lu,

No problem, no need to apologize. I just got over excited to see someone I haven't seen in a very long time, I am sorry that make you feel bad.
