DH does 180...

Posted by B2chica on July 12, 2007, at 8:06:03

sometimes i swear my DH knows when i'm going to T cuz he does this 180 turn around.
i complained earlier about what an @$$ he's been lately.
well, last night he was More help than probably the last 2 months combined! when i came home with little one, he was doing laundry. he put the clean dishes away, and he tried to let me take a nap since i must have looked like a zombie when i came home. i got 1/2 hour in before DD wanted some eats. THEN (yes there's more) he grilled some chicken for a quick dinner AND he watched the little one while i ate, so i actually finished a Warm meal!
...i just don't know what got into him.

well, i kinda do. i think it started cuz it's been so hard lately. several times now he's walked into the room with DD fussing on the floor (with toys) while i'm just balled up on the couch and can hardly move. and finally tuesday night DH left for a while and when he came back he found me rocking little one and teary, blotchy and red....ya, i had a mini meltdown. DD had started crying (once again) so i picked her up from crib and just looked at her and started crying...i just didn't know what she wanted anymore...i'd tried Everything. i must have bawled...and i mean BAWLED for 1/2 hour. i kinda laugh now cuz all my crying and blubbering my problems to DD actually put her to sleep!
but i think DH realized that if something doesn't change i'm going to have another MAJOR breakdown. i just wish it didn't have to come to my meltdowns before he realizes i need help. i had been telling him for about a month that i need more help around the house...nothing.
NOW, he was great last night. But i have T appt late today and it's on calendar...and sometimes i swear he knows when i go to T so he acts a little 'better'. maybe i should write more fake appt's on calendar to see if it helps(haha).

well, i just had to write you'all about his turn about. but i'm still gonna mention issues to T.

That's wonderful. It means at some level he really gets it and is trying like you to figure out how to live differently with this bundle of joy that can drive you crazy! Being a united front, instead of picking each other part, takes so much less energy in the long run for both of you.
take care,
antigua

B2, it sounds like you are really having a tough time . Mothering is such hard work, even though it is enjoyable too. I think it is good that our DH has a clue on how to help. But I certainly understand not trusting his "change" to be long term.
I think when a couple has a baby for the first time, things have to be retalked about as far as chores and stuff. If you are staying home as a mother, it doesn't mean you can do "everything" either. You have a young daughter and she is a priorty over housework and stuff.
My DH is calling my T, Dr. Evil, so I think they are aware of what we might be saying in therapy about them. :-)

I know I'm being dumb but..

could you tell me what DH stands for? I've always kind of imagined it meant Darling Husband, spoken sarcastically, but now I see DD. Is this Darling Daughter?

Thanks very much for this - what a useful site! Perhaps now I'll be able to understand what people are talking about.

He has also called him Dr. Strangelove, but I haven't seen the movie so I don't know what that means. He has also said many times that my T is in love with me. Whatever...why does he care? He doesn't want me...

and for the record, when I use DH, I don't mean dear or darling! lol

:-)

Haaa! I've seen it a million times now but never looked "DH" up, cuz I felt sure it stood for "Desperate," having sprung from one's home life having some element of "Desperate Housewives"-type nuttiness or something. Desp. H-wife, Desp. Husband. When I saw the "DD" in this thread was the first time I realized I probably had it wrong! ;-)
