sorry JYL.. setbacks are always disappointing. But it's good you're taking care of yourself. I hope the program is helpful for you

I'm sorry you're feeling bad-I know you'd probably rather hear something better? sorry, I wish I could wave a wand and make everything right in your world. I do hope you take care of yourself:-) be good to you!!
Day programs are pretty cool-they can be anyway....nah I'd rather go to a bar, play some pool, laugh it up eh?
:-) be good to you!!!

Hope you are feeling better soon JYL. I know everytime I suffer thru a violent mood swing, it's disheartening. But it really is a step forward that you are getting help. Good luck and pls hang in there until Tuesday...

I'll be thinking of you.
Can you see it as an opportunity to learn, to get stronger?
Can you see it as having a bunch of resources close by who can help you grow?
I have found that when I have been in a day program that I have learned so much, and gotten so much support.
But I do know what you mean when you think that you are supposed to be better. You're not supposed to need this. Did the social worker explain why he was recommending this? It might help you focus if you knew what he saw as the current issues.
It doesn't mean that you have done badly, it means that there are resources who can help you feel better.
Since it is a day program, you can let us know what is going on when you come home at night. I'd really like to know.

Many of your messages have seemed upbeat and hopeful, JYL. So I think you probably are getting better. It's just that "better" isn't a straight line. And unfortunately even "better" might have relapses. That's the frustrating thing about this illness. But maybe as you get better, the down times will be shorter. I know that doesn't help you much right now when you're feeling bad though.

Keep posting, if that helps. And do some things that make you feel good. I like sitting in the tub and letting the warm water run over my hand as I twist it slowly from side to side. My own version of meditation I guess.

JYL,

I was in a day program last summer and felt it was so much more helpful to me than my inpatient experience (albeit in a different hospital) this year. It was wonderful to just be in a group of supportive people who GOT IT.

Please, dear, try to go into this with an open mind and don't allow yourself to feel like you've taken a step back. You are working on this - you are helping yourself - you went to see the social worker - and now you're going into a day program. That's not a step back, that's many steps forward. You will only continue to get stronger!!!

Take care.
P

I really have to agree with Penny that a day program is much more helpful then being inpatient. Instead of feeling like you're taking a backward step, realize that the social worker must feel you are well enough to engage in a day program rather then being hospitalized. I hope you gain a lot and keep us posted with your progress.
take care, judy

Hi, what a very nice thing to post:-) Something funny I have to tell. I was in a day program once, and I got an award for *increased ability to ask for help* lol-I thought it was funny at the time, but honestly looking back, it WAS one thing that I learned about myself-that I needed to ask for help-as no one can read my mind. Yep-you sure did make a step forward, really glad you posted, a lot of kind, caring, honest people on this board-please know that.
You take gentle care too:-)
