Interesting question. I didn't think it would be Magnesium Oxide in food, but I was interested in what form of magnesium foods contain.
All I could find is that "Plants take up magnesium in its ionic form Mg+2, which is the form of dissolved magnesium in the soil solution."
And:"Magnesium is the powerhouse behind photosynthesis in plants. Without magnesium, chlorophyll cannot capture sun energy needed for photosynthesis. In short, magnesium is required to give leaves their green color. Magnesium in plants is located in the enzymes, in the heart of the chlorophyll molecule. Magnesium is also used by plants for the metabolism of carbohydrates and in the cell membrane stabilization".
The chlorophyll molecule is C55H72O5N4Mg and the central Mangesium is surrounded by the 4 Nitrogens with other side chains attached and a hydrocarbon tail.
So plant magnesium would seem to be in an organic form?

I have diarrhoea possibly from Magnsium Oxide. Thinking Magnesium Glycinate? What dosage is good for someone who is working out?

I have found both Manesium Oxide and Magnesium Citrate can give me diarrhoea. A little less so if taken with food. I also seemed to recall that when taking Magnesium Oxide (years ago), my body seemed to adjust a bit over time.
But I now take Magnesium Glycinate (bisGlycinate sometimes sold is apparently the same thing). It's known to be "gentler" on gut than other forms. When first starting it sometimes gives me some "urgency" but not truly diarrhoea, if I take with food it mostly eliminates any bowel issues. Brand I take contains 140 mg elemental Magnesium, so although not a high dose, this form is said to be better absorbed than non-organic forms like Oxide.
Don't know what's recommended for Working Out but a web search might give some clues. Maybe also take into account what you're getting through diet e.g. nuts, legumes, leafy greens, etc. I've also read that taking with Vitamin C enhances absorption.
This is the end of the thread.
