I personally think that things might have gone better had you talked to her about the comment before going to her supervisor. I'm not sure why you felt you couldn't speak to her about it and had to go to a supervisor? People don't like to feel like they're getting in trouble, so my guess is that was part of her reaction.

I forgot to mention that I had tried to address it with her first, previously...I would love the chance to sit down with her again, but that door is closed...
