Things that make me HAPPY!!

Posted by Lao Tzu on May 28, 2008, at 18:55:23

Right off the bat, I must tell you I'm rather sedentary and socially isolated, with the exception of being around my family most of the time. I love to watch movies by myself. I love to listen to music. I like to read sometimes, mostly novels about vampires. I like to ride my bike, and I love to play tennis with my brother. I love to write poetry when I'm in the mood. I like spending time with my friend once in a while, even though I may be anxious a lot. He challenges me mentally because he has a good mind and he seems to know what's going on in the world, whereas I don't pay much attention to current events and only slightly do I pay attention to trends of the day. I know that I don't always do what would be best for me. So you may be wondering, who cares, right? I just wanted to share a little bit about myself so that whomever reading this will know that once you become more stable on your meds or on your supplements or both, you may find yourself needing to do things that help you forget your depression and anxiety. You may have an idea to do something one day, but you might think I'm too anxious or too tired to try. Simple things first, more complex things later down the road. It is so important to find these specific activities, no matter how trivial they may seem, so that you can find some satisfaction in your life. I've been out of work for three years now, but when I was working, part of the time I was stressed waiting for the day to be over and yet, part of the time I really delved into my work even though I was tired and I had to put a lot of physical and mental effort into it. Then I realized some wisdom that if you can find a job that even slightly interests you, that's like a vaccine for depression. And the bonus of it is that even if you're slightly happy at work, you'll be around others who quite possibly want to listen to you and be supportive of you, and quite possibly, you'll have forged a friendship or two. So here we have a formula:

Medicine or supplements or both + Personal satisfaction (Time at home) + Hard work that slightly interests you + A friend or two = Anti-depression and a road to recovery. You could also add to this equation your therapist, religion, college, sports and exercise, 8 hours of sleep a night, pets, girl or boyfriend or porn, etc. etc.
Hope you all have a great day!
