>Cymbalta (generic name duloxetine) doesn't seem to be much special, it may lack some of the typical side-effects of TCA's (dry mouth, constipation, cognitive debilitation, cardiac burden) but it has its own bizarre list of potential side-effects. It may be a good choice for some people who are both depressed an in pain.

Cymbalta has one of the lower ratings for antidepressants on AskAPatient.com. I wonder if the reason it pales in comparison to TCAs is because its so selective. It doesn't block 5 HT2A/C, or the muscarnic receptors which can help to make people feel better. Reboxetine also has questionable efficacy compared to the TCAs and yet it is much more selective.
