Subject: Trazodone meta-analysis
I thought I'd bring people up to date on the Trazodone meta-analysis I wrote about a month or so ago.
Bottomline: Data from the 16 studies reviewed showed that trazodone was associated with (global) response in 58.8% and control antidepressants in 66%. This difference was highly statistically significant due to the large number of patients involved (N=1704). Average trazodone dose, dose schedule (hs vs split dose), in or outpatient status, diagnostic criteria (DSM-III, RDC, or Feighner vs Other) and type of control antidepressant (tri- or tetra-cyclic vs Other) did not make a significant difference.
By posting this I hope to encourage others to write about their new research findings. The net won't replace journals anytime soon, but its immediacy and two-way nature haven't been exploited nearly enough in our field.
