Women made the Man

Posted by Toph on June 3, 2009, at 10:53:49

We hunt and fight, must plant the seed
Our fathers lessons learned.
But balanced men need cry and bleed
If trust of women earned.
___

Consider this grand matriarch
Who shaped my fathers growth,
Was firm and kind, she set the mark.
She pushed and loved him both.

Male infants cling, develop strength,
They suckle at the breast.
The young man needs her at arms length.
His mother gave her best.

First object of his jealous spite,
More rival than a friend.
Now acts as counsel, steers him right,
Proud sister to the end.

Part mentor, mother, sister all,
We seek what we have known.
The wife for which men often fall
Resembles those our own.
___

We fight and hunt, must plant the seed
Our fathers lessons learned.
But balanced men need cry and bleed
If trust of women earned.

So praise grandmother, honor mom,
Heed sister, love your wife.
These womens wisdom fosters calm ~
Whole men throughout their life.

My mother's death knocked me on my @ss, Pat. http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/write/20090424/msgs/896864.html My wife, who has never seen me manic, helped my get back on my feet.

I remember when your mother died and how I worried about you. I dropped out from reading here and missed the post about your being hospitalized due to the mania.

I am so glad that you are recovering. What a great woman your wife is! We all need someone to catch us when we fall...unfortunately those people are few and far between in my life.

Landscaping can be so calming and fulfilling. After Fayeroe died I threw myself into constructing an old fashioned grave "yard" for her.(found white bookcase on curb) Then I filled it with every flower possible. That helped me tremendously. None of my friends or family would talk to me about her, so the flowers saved me.

I love you, man.......remember that commercial?

xoxox Pat

You're a good friend Pat. As proof of the unconscious, while I was moving on with my life, having thought I had properly grieved, my mind said not so fast. These illnesses either expose the weaknesses of a relationship or prove their strength. My wife obviously cares a great deal about me as a manic can be a very unpleasant person.

Once out of the bin I spent a week building a cedar rabbit fence around my garden. Landscaping is indeed therapeutic. And you know that Fayeroe would have loved thrashing through your flowers!
