Hi Floss,

The only time I've been successfull at getting unemployment is when the employer let me go for unrelated reasons. Did your last employer let you go because of depression related issues? Under the Americans with Disabilities act you might qualify for unemployment as you could claim you needed extra assistance to do your work which was not provided. In any case it couldn't hurt to try.

Good luck.

That is a tough one, and one I have learned from. You don't want to lie, and you have to watch things that will get you shown to the door.

It also has to depend on lenth of employment, industry, position, etc... As a hiring manager I always looked at this careful and asked questions during the interview. The one thing I can say, do not show negativity about previous employers. Was your employer unethical? If so, can you provide examples. The unethical route helped me years ago, but I was aked for examples during the interview, and was able to provide them.

My last company provided an illness recovery program that with the assistance of my pdoc verifying I was too ill to work, gave me 6 weeks paid leave. It was part of the insurance provided at the job. Other than that, it may depend on your state. In TX we have an a thing where either the employee or employer can terminate employment for any reason. The only way you get unemployment is if it was a layoff. Unfortunately its very easy to create what looks like legitimate reasons for dismissal. All they have to say is you were not up to par, not fast enough, not creative enough, etc. For an unethical person its really easy concoct something that's impossible to disprove.

Anyway, that's my experience, but you should check with your unemployment office. You just never know.
