I'm going to take a class

Posted by Angela2 on August 8, 2008, at 17:10:27

I'm going to take a class this fall at a community college. I'm excited but also nervous. My nerves are telling me that...if I don't like it and waste my money? What if I can't get to the campus or something? I'm probably going to take the online course but there might be offline meetings. OK well thats it for now and if anyone has anything to say that might make me feel less nervous please say so! thanks.

...say anything that might make you less nervous eh?....

....how about load up on some starbucks. that'll do the trick :D

nah kidding I drink alot of costco lattes, sometimes up to 3 a day and i need it to calm me. maybe I'm already addicted???

I'm also taking CC classes this fall and hope I'm not wasting money also as I already have an excellent job its just that I wanted to learn new skills so that's why i wanted to go back. i guess in the long run you'll recoup your money as u save up again. but yeah have fun while counting the cost. make sure you're not investing a whole lot if u feel uncertain about it. but then again u never know how it'll turn out unless u go through w/ it right? give it some thought and I'm sure you'll do fine.

take care,

nfc

Angela,
I know that you're gonna do great. You've been making SO much progress, in terms of driving yourself around town, doing [craft] projects and playdates with friends.

This is a big thing to take on, but I think that you'll get into a rhythm by the 3rd week or so. I think that buying a new outfit and a pretty notebook takes away a lot of the jitters.

Also, as a college instructor, I was usually more nervous than the students (or so I perceived!). Plenty of students feel nervous-- in fact, I think that's the norm. I always supect that the super-cocky ones are unusual in their own special ways.

I dunno that this makes you feel any better, but make sure and keep us updated as classes start. It's okay to have a freak-out meltdown on babble. God knows *I* have. And I probably will again.

Sometimes having our own issues makes us more understanding of different viewpoints and more openminded and curious-- great qualities of a student.

Thanks Llurpsie. You definitely have helped me. I will probably print out your response and read it often!

OK, so I was looking for class sections that are open. And the only one that is open right now is the night one which isn't online and it's like 3 hours long. I *think* I may go for it though.

kind of excited,
Angela2

sorry for the late response Angela,

can u get a class full override and take the class anyway? maybe the college counselor can help u w/ that. if not take the extra time to prep yourself for the next semester.

talk to ya later,

ok, well I am not taking the class afterall because it is too late for financial aid and I don't want to pay in full. I still really want to take a class at a community college though. so maybe in the spring.

nfc, what is a class full override?

Angela2,

School is a good thing! I am a full-time student, and went back last full after several years off. In order to be eligible for financial aid you must be half time.

Good luck!

Hey Angela

a class full override is my bad phrasing for a full class override. It's like when a class is full and a college counselor lets you register for the class anyway perhaps w/ consent from the instructor. but yeah since you're gonna go in the spring, u don't have to worry. just register early and you'll be good to go.

I'm wishy washy but...advice please?

I want to take a class now. Except class starts in a week, the sections I want are full. I think I'll do what nfc suggested and ask to get into a class that is full. But I don't want to bother anyone or annoy anyone. Any thoughts about this would be appreciated. thank you.

I decided not to go. It was getting really late and I didn't get financial aid because of that. Maybe next semester I will take a course. I do have a bachelor's degree though. So it's not like I need to take more credits. But I thought it would be stimulating to learn, have structure and talk to other people.

Right now I'm concentrating on some of my short term goals. So maybe next semester.
