Hi fan,
I hope you did well on your finals. I've forgotten about exams before, and it's always a jolt.

I've noticed from your posts over time that you talk about bad things "happening to you" a lot. I don't think I'd characterize forgetting about your exams as a bad thing happening "to you". I wonder instead if it's a consequence of your actions or perhaps inaction. I assume you had your course syllabus and schedule for the whole term. That would mean you've always known when finals were, and you had a resource for checking and double-checking the date and preparing for them. Of course you have to remember to check them. That's where I fall down in the process.

I also have ADHD. I struggle with time management and planning, and a consequence of those struggles is that I sometimes "forget" about something until right before it is due. That's not bad luck or bad things happening to me. That's what happens when I fail to plan, something I constantly have to work on.

I'm writing this not to criticize you or blame you, but instead to hopefully help you feel more empowered. If we go through life thinking that bad things "happen to" us, then there's not much we can do to prevent it, and that can feel rather hopeless and depressing. But if we recognize appropriately these things that "happen" as consequences of our behavior, then we have something to work with in changing those "happenings".

Something to chew on, anyway, if you're interested.

gg
