So I bought a house :0)

Posted by Clearskies on July 12, 2018, at 2:51:36

I still cant quite believe Im seriously adulting. There have been quiite the obstacles during this journey, from having my major appliances delivered and left in the back yard, to having my homeowners insurance cancelled a week after we closed on the house (which necessitated getting insurance coverage in the first place).

Totally unplanned for up front expenses followed: replacing the roof, and painting the exterior of the house in order to be reinsured BY ANYBODY. I quickly learned about the financial ins and outs, and have even since sat down with the financial advisor weenie at the bank to sort out my savings/retirement plans going forward.

I cried every day during the process, but Im pretty sure it was to be expected. My therapist went of vacation, of course.

The house I bought had sat empty for some time before it was put up for sale...and the night before I took ownership, somebody busted in the back door. Did no other damage (I suspect they thought it was open for squatting). Accordingly, the first thing I did was get a security system for the house, remotely/directly/cell phone/iPad controllable. I can watch the interior if the house while I sit in the back yard. Do all sorts of tricks with it. So far I havent summoned the authorities unnecessarily.

So, my next adventure begins. Its a 1904 Craftsman style cottage, great for me and my cat. Has a detached garage of the same age that requires rehabilitation, my challenge. Im still coming to grips with having a back yard and taking out the rubbush bins, LOL.

Here I go.

I suppose it is...not one Id ever thoight I would do. I was always hoping I would be with a partner. You cant live waiting for one, though. I love the house although the complications have been mind boggling. Its odd to be doing something so responsible when I still feel so dire! The longer I live with depression and anxiety, the better I understand the swings and cycles of them, the dance of feeling slightly better, then worse again.

Im learning to not be so very afraid.

Congrats :-)

I'm sure it is. I didn't buy a house, but I moved into renting one and all the things I needed to organise / sort out. And getting quotes for it and then meeting with Work and Income people and so on and so forth. I think I cried most every day, too, from the stress of it all.

But it was also kind of motivating / fun. In a unsustainable kind of exhausting way.

That's a cool idea. Great for peace of mind.

Haha. Me too. Mine is only half fill this week so I'm not going to bother... Heh.

Late congratulations! I'm really impressed because that is serious adulting. Is it cute? Being a craftsman.

After we bought a house, the water heater cr*pp*d out, and my spouse said, 'call the landlord!'

Then again, no one is clopping overhead in boots, etc.

Tons of best wishes :0) x
