safe air?

Posted by rjlockhart37 on October 27, 2017, at 19:19:08

turned on the heating AC in the house and thought i was gonna die after the smell, it has not been changed in long time, the random people have not gotten it cleaned, i turned on air ionizer and increased the ion charge to maximum, i read that ions do destroy mold, but at the same time, air ionizer make me feel weird.....trying to get a true HEPA filter... AC ducts have not been changed for long timee...its scary because that smell is still in the room, have to turn the air flow off in this room and buy a portable heater

The start new thread button doesn't seem to operate on my computer, so I'm hijacking your thread, RJ - sorry.

I have a friend who went awol on me for 4 months. She returned calls but only after I called twice and when I tried to organize some activity , she just said she's too busy. This is someone I've been close with for 10 years and have gotten together with routinely at least once every 2-3 weeks. I have a real problem confronting issues in relationships so I just let it go. But I saw her at a group event last weekend and just found myself feeling angry and not wanting to interact or even be in the same room as her.

Uncharacteristically, I called her later and told her I was upset with her. She got defensive, said she's been busy, blah, blah. I told her I work full time and spend several hours a week on piano (she works part time) and still find time to keep in touch with people I care about. She ended up saying, well, I'm sorry you feel that way.

I ended the call, angry. I then agonizes for days about whether I should call again and apologize for how I ended the call, but was afraid that if I did and she got all defensive again (too bad you feel that way), I would lose it completely. But I was also terrified that a 10-yr friendship was blown.

So....She called me today. Said she gets into her own little stuff and doesn't think about how she's affecting others. Realized that I work very hard at maintaining friendships with her and others and she does not.

It was such a relief. Until several years ago, I never had friends and since I've made friends over the last 7-8 years or so, I've worked like crazy to maintain the relationships. But most people don't work that hard because they've always had friends since they were young and just kind of take friendship for granted.

Confronting her was a huge stretch for me. But I did it and it worked out.

I'm glad she called. My anxiety was rising in the short moments reading your post! I have issues both with confronting and also disappearing on people :/

Good work on both fronts.

Weird that you can't initiate threads.

Hi rj, Our heaters emit a dusty smell at the start of the season. I turn them on and let them burn off while we go out for a little bit. I figure it's just dust.

Do you have any houseplants? A Snake Plant is super easy to care for and somehow cleans the air pretty well.

hey...it's the centeral ac ducts, they have not been changed in.....its scary to say too long, nasty, but now its fine, when it was first turned on since last feburary the smell i thought i was gonna die, no exaggeration

i've been researching on the best air filters, true HEPA purifiers, with a UV light with it, it kills bacteria in the air, not all of it but it reduces a good amount. I have an ionzier it gets rid of smells, but i posted on the babble med board, it makes negative ions and in can help mood, and health, but when i leave it on too long it makes me feel wierd, ozone effect. Plus ionzers really don't actually clean the air, the negative ions attached to odors and they make all the bad smell particles drop, so there not being cleaned, there just being dropped

snake plant intresting... plants do produce air, there's a plant in the kitchen that's 10 years old, its big, it was a gift from when my grandmother had passed away in 2008, it died and then grew back so fast it was wierd, they do produce air and some other things, its good to have plants in your house
