It gets to be a bit much, doesn't it?

There's so much smoke outside (we're almost three hours from any fires), all the doors and windows are shut, and I've been foregoing my walks.

Get fires where you are?

Hear about them sometimes on the rural outskirts. I think floods is the biggest risk, here.

How are you holding up?

Hi, hey there. We're on the middle coast, hours from the Ventura/Los Angles blazes. And we're a few hours from the recent northern fires. Those caused smoke for a few days, enough to cancel after school intramurals, but we've been lucky. Thanks for asking :-)

You have fires on the outskirts at times? Floods from heavy rains? Last year we had floods after exceptional rains because the ground is so parched. I had hopes for this year, but the fall has been dry, and winter is looking the same :(

How are things with you and the summer?

Glad to hear your home is safe.

I'm doing alright. Summer is variable, here. Gets nice for a bit, then back to feeling like it's gonna snow. It's still a bit early. Will be nicer in January and February and the first couple weeks of March. I hope.

I am looking forward to the Marlborough cherries coming into season. They try and get them ripe for christmas, but they just don't. A week or two after and they are big as plums, nearly black in color, and cheap since they have a bunch of them to move all of a sudden. At least, that's what happened last year.

When I was in the US one of the students parents had an organic avocado farm somewhere in California. She brought some avocado's back with her after visiting and I'd never seen such large avocado's before. I think they were a different species (or whatever you call it) from the ones I'm used to seeing (imported green from who knows where). They were just amazing, though. We get a lot of Californian oranges, here, and I'm not sure why, since you would think we could get them from Australia... Guess not... You'd think we could get bananas from Australia, too, but they just will not hand them over. Sigh.
