I wrote a hundred poems

I wrote a hundred poems
And I put them in a pail
And I planted them in secret
And nothing grew at all

I generally don't like poetry. I love yours.

I also like yours, but a request: instead of putting the first line as your thread title, maybe you could signal that it's a poem, as opposed to an unmediated desperate outburst.

That is the title of the poem in the subject line,
Entirely appropriate.

Thank you for the very kind comments :)
I include the first line as the subject if the poem has no title. But, pontormo, could you explain more about what you mean? Do you mean you would prefer that I signal in the subject that the post is a poem?

If it were the title of a poem in a book of poems, or a poetry magazine, I would certainly agree with you. But those words, without any marker of their status as poem title, are disturbing and disorienting for me as the subject line of a thread on a social board of this type of website.

My response to poetry is very different from my response to personal suffering or a personal confidence, even if it is expressed publicly.

While I could relate to the subject line in this context as a poem if it said "Poem: ["words of first line"], given the context, I can hardly be expected to take them forwhat they turn out to be. Obviously context goes a long way in these things.

Hence I"m not really sure how it's appropriate under the circumstances-- if you prefer to discuss it in those terms.

It's not a huge problem by any means, but I do feel that I don't like having my expectations undermined in that way. Just personal taste no doubt.

Hmm.

I'm sorry.

I feel like maybe I'm to blame here for my half baked ramblings which I sometimes pass half heartedly as poems...

It's in the crafting, I think. When I don't edit properly. Is that what you mean pontormo?

I would agree.

My first impression of the subject lines in these posts was that the poster was suffering and needed support immediately. This is not a rebuke in any way. I hope to read more poems.

I guess it's sort of like yelling "FIRE" in a crowded movie theater.

Perhaps it is a little like crying "WOLF".

People here want to help as much a possible and become emotionally invested in the welfare of others. You wouldn't want to desensitize people in such a way so that they not be able to tell the difference between a submission for the sake of creativity and an urgent call for help.

ah. i suppose I sort of see what you mean. i wrote something one about a baby being hit over the head by a spanner (metaphor) and other people responded similarly.

I like your feedback, and will adjust subject lines. One note from me: my poems are my posts. They are filled with imagery and metaphor, but real and sincere sentiments. I have struggled a lot lately and have posted poems wanting support, and I feel that I have received it here. This doesn't affect how I'll format subject lines, but I just wanted it known. I'm beginning an intensive out patient DBT program on Tuesday at great cost and inconvenience to my family and my work, and really struggling. The poetry distracts me from my anxiety, which otherwise can lead to self-injury and other bad things. All of your supportive comments, both regarding my poetry and my thoughts, have been wonderful and I thank you all!
