Lou Reed

So he is dead then?

He came here and curated the Sydney Festival a few years ago and was received with affection and respect, at least so it felt to me. Liked riding his motor bike around Sydney.

Yes, Lou Reed is dead, but may his music continue to be played: long live the Velvet Underground.

Yes. He had a new liver installed earlier this year and that may have had something to do with his demise. Many complications with organ transplants.
RIP

What a remarkable achievement the Velvet Underground's first commercially sold album was.

Really almost a perfect album from start to finish-- whatever you think of their outlook-- beautiful, strange, tortured, driven and driving from start to finish.

I very much liked the double live album, 1969.

I even listened to half of Metal Machine Music.

Did Lou have ECT to disambiguate his sexuality?

I always loved the tone of 'Kill your sons'.

Roy Harper had that (forced I think) which led to some interesting reflections in his music.

The tone is to die for.

Yes, Sigismund, he did have ECT as a corrective measure in his early adolescence.

His death has hit me pretty hard. His work w/ the Velvets is what got me through high school. His solo work - specifically his work in the 80's where he is brutally honest about living life without alcohol - has got me through my 20's and sobriety (thus far).

For comical relief, I always listen to "Take No Prisoners". It's Lou live in 78' at his absolute worst. Just complete meltdown and toying with/talking to the crowd.

Even at his worst no one could come close to him, "You give me an issue, I'll give you a tissue. And you can wipe your *ss with it." Mind you, this double lp live album was recorded over a week of concerts.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:

The first time anyone refers to a book, a movie, or music without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she is at least aware of it.
