What's your favorite psych related movie??

Posted by sleepygirl2 on May 26, 2012, at 8:19:14

I really like "ordinary people"
"a beautiful mind" is interesting
There's "girl interrupted". I'm not into that one.
They don't really talk to you in psych units, so the inaccuracy bothers me, but it was a different time.

"As Good as It Gets" was okay. I guess you could call it a "feel good" movie.

They should make movies about what psych units are really like. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and pills. Repeat.
Not great material.

"I never promised you a rose garden" - the book was better (of course)...but i still liked the movie.

I also really like "21 days" with Sandra bullock...i know it's rehab, but that's the kind of place i'd like to be in.

Exactly but had to wait for many to have blood glucose checked first. I had a nurse ask me if I was taking, don't remember the med. She said, do you want one? What?!! It may have been something for sleep but still.

Oh God! Requiem for a Dream was one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. I rented it several years ago while I was laid up at home with a broken ankle and watched it with my teenage daughter and her (male) best friend. I felt embarrassed and depressed at the same time.

I can't watch that movie. I did, and I'm still stuck with how disturbing it was.

Requiem for a Dream was a doozy. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Suddenly Last Summer.

The King of Hearts. But that one is sweet and not realistic at all. The old French film, yes?

I am forgetting some.

yes,Requiem for a Dream, was brutal.Phillipa,it was about drug addiction, and going crazy, and shock treatments, and it was something you dont want to see.I knew I should turn it off,and didnt.Just like with Drive, watched that and kept thinking I should shut if off,yet kept watching.I guess violence disturbs me,and I should be filling my mind with lighter fare.

I remember a movie called "trainspotting".
Also disturbing, also about drugs.
But a better movie, overall

I can really get lost in movies,in a good way and also in a bad way.I can feel happy or sad or haunted for days from a film, and books too.I guess that's the way it is for highly sensitive, neurotic people-me!

You know,
Part of me really enjoyed "castaway", because it was so quiet for most of the movie, not a lot of action, not a lot of noise. That stuff overwhelms me.
But it was a good movie, probably in a psychological way too.
You know... That drive to be attached to something, even if it's a volleyball, the need to see another face.

Yes, I remember castaway. It was comforting when he attached himself to the ball.Im trying to think of the movie Ive seen that has affected me the most.Tree of Life comes to mind, just the way it was filmed and that it was so different from any Ive seen. Also, that movie about the dog that waits for years for his owner to return, after the owner died. Was it called Hitachi? I cried and cried and was so upset for days.

Castaway was sad and poignant but not depressing. Tom Hanks is never depressing.

My favorite movie therapist is the one from Ordinary People, though he's far short of Dr. Kroger from Monk on TV - who reminds me very very much of my own therapist.

But my favorite psychological movie was "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". I think I identified, at the time, with the protagonist's feeling of responsibility for his dysfunctional family. With the help of therapy, and probably the death of my father, I've lost enough of it that I probably wouldn't be as viscerally affected.

Oddly enough, "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" and "The Counterfeit Traitor" are two of my favorite movies, yet I can only bear to watch them every couple of decades or so.

I really can't watch dog movies. At least not where the dog dies, which seems to be all of them.

I loved What's Eating Gilbert Grape. It was one of Leonardo DiCaprio's first roles as the developmentally disabled brother. He was so great. Johnny Depp was great too. And whoever played the mother -- unbelievable.
