Need help dealing with paranoid person

Posted by jammerlich on July 7, 2010, at 19:35:47

This person probably does not have a full blown disorder, but what could probably be called a strong personality style.

I am on the receiving end of it. I don't know how to handle it, it's hurtful and it really sucks.

The accusations thrown my way are false, yet plausible, and there is really no way I can defend myself because they are the kinds of things I can't prove I didn't do. When I deny the allegations this person then claims I am cunning and a good game player and only do these underhanded things in ways where there is always plausible deniability. Like, how can you prove you didn't post something on an anonymous site like craigslist? Or that when you suggest doing a certain activity, you do so because you actually want to do it and not because you are trying to ellicit some response from the other person?

I am at a loss. And truly at the point where I am beginning to feel alienated and at my limit.

you're right, there may be no way to prove yourself

perhaps the simple sentence... "I understand that's how you feel, but it is simply not the case."
or "my actions had nothing to do with you."

what else can you do? and is it worth it to try??
the thing is, sometimes people will just find ways to justify their beliefs no matter what.
