Starting my own site - totally confused!

Posted by Deneb on June 27, 2010, at 18:07:26

I've decided to start up my own website and I'm totally confused! OK, so I learned the basics of HTML, got a $2 domain and have free hosting at the moment, but I am totally confused!

I clicked on the one click Wordpress Install, but now I have no idea what to do!

I think I have to do something with the FTP?? (Whatever that is?)

Can someone point me in the right direction?

I think I have to upload my files to the server right? How do I get into Wordpress?

Also my domain is not where my hosting is, do I have to change some settings or something?

OMGosh! I think I am live!

I found my Wordpress Blog and I posted a sentence. This is so cool! I don't want to link to my blog because it is registered under my real name and I don't want it associated with Babble.

My blog is not about mental health, making money or anything that may tarnish my reputation.

It's a pretty safe blog! I hope I get a lot of readers!

Ugh, my Mom is always SO not supportive of the things I do! I just told her about my website and she told me not to do it because my blog will be helpful to people.

I'm going to put a lot of informative material on my site and I'm not thinking of putting adsense onto it until much later. My main motivation for this site is not to make money but rather to motivate me into learning.

Anyways my Mom says people shouldn't get to learn all this information for free and basically said I was a sucker.

Why can't my Mom be supportive?

My view is that this information is already out there on the web for free. My little blog is not going to make such a big difference.

Plus, what is wrong about teaching people information for free?

Argh.
