Hi Bulldog,

No criticism taken. My point to maniac and anyone else is that if one poster is tired of another poster, just leave it alone.

I know all three of you have known each other for years. If you care about Phillipa or any other poster, there might be better ways to communicate concern. Teasing and sarcasm, say, for example about cosmetic surgery can really hurt more than help. As a woman, I can be sensitive about my appearance. Because of my personal history, teasing and rough play can trigger shame. Everyone is different. But I can't assume my sarcasm or black humor (which I'm very fond of) is always appreciated.

And tolerance. Seems you and maniac are really pretty confident in taking care of your med needs. Maybe that confidence has been hard won for you. Maybe for maniac, too. I think it' wonderful and inspirational--really. Why let other people's med anxieties get in your way? Seems folks here run the gamut from med-phobic to Gonzo psychedelic.

I anticipate reactions since I've been here over a year. Somebody almost always tells me I'm bipolar. Or I need a special bloodtest. Jeez, my own brother wants me to replace my teeth, drink reverse osmosis water (and shower in it) and that I'm emasculating my son because there is floride in his water. I wanted to post about some probably dumb neurotransmitter test my physiatrist ordered, but thought better of it.

Oh well, I'm rambling here. Bottom line: I've been enjoyong philipa's tjread, and I felt the posts were getting a little rough.

FB don't feel dumb. Guess what today a lady who works in Costco has been out on medical leave for quite a few months. This time hysterectomy and having problems with it said that in the ICU they hooked her brain up to something she didn't know what and it showed her serotonin was low. And they don't want her on hormones. I thought neurotransmitters couldn't be tested? I said I thought most serotonin in gut she said no the doc tested them in her brain?????? I'm amazed. You will never know what you might learn by talking to others. Phillipa ps how you read this

Keeping in mind that the idea here is not to post anything that could lead others to feel accused or put down, could you please rephrase the above?

But please don't take this personally, this doesn't mean I don't like you or think you're a bad person, and I'm sorry if this hurts you.

It's up to you to decide whom you interact with. Sometimes interacting with others may be frustrating, staying civil may be a challenge, and new skills may be required. If you're open to developing new skills (I know that may not be why you came in the first place), that's another way in which you might be able to be supported by other posters.

Phillipa, I'm also sorry if you felt hurt.

I'm sorry you can't.

I know what it is to not be able to feel music, and not be able to have my emotions touched by movies or TV or even real life. It s*cks.

But now you're thinking of getting a new dog? A lab? Such happy dogs. A puppy or an adult? There are advantages each way.

A puppy. My son & husband would like one very much. And yes, a lab--happy &lively (like breaking a bronco!). Otherwise, I'd lean towards an older, more worldly gal.

My husband says that to a lab, life is one big party, and everyone is invited :). Watching our old lab hit the waves or any body of water gave me such pleasure. When her arthritis was bad toward the end of her life, she'd hobble to the water, tail wagging, and plunge in. We'd have to limit her swim time because she'd give the water her all, then be
unable to get off the couch for the remainder of the day.

For myself, when depression is bad, I can't listen to music or see films because they trigger me (among other things).

I've been on a samurai movie kick :)

I have 2 big yellow labs, my girl Una (85 lbs) who is all love and wiggles and tiny, little kisses if you plead gently with her...and my big guy, Tommy, who was rescued about 3 years ago and is a big hulk (105#) of a guy, all slobber and wet, french kisses and an insaitable appetite. He has put away a loaf of bread and an entire carrot cake that I left on the counter, which you can never do, as his main job is to watch and see where food items may be unattended.

Labs are the best, have unconditional love to give and are good therapy for me in that they can push me to take them out and it gives me a purpose to have to care for them when I'm not feeling up to doing much of anything.

I don't know where you live but we have a Lab rescue group here in CT that I work with from time to time. MOst of the labs come from the South and there are tons of labs everywhere that need homes due to the economy, sad commentary today.

Gotta love those labs!!!

I've heard that about labs from the southern states. A friend recently adopted a gorgeous black lab pup from a rescue on the west coast.

Mabel was yellow, though tending more toward fox red. Bless her, the sweetest, most obedient soul except around food. During a supper party at our house, Mabel tried to down an entire wheel of brie.

I still remember her gagging, the looks on our guests' faces incredulous (they were yet unacquainted with life's more nitty gritty aspects that dogs expose us to; and yes, it was difficult to say, by the time we saw her, which direction the cheese was going, in or out), and my husband and I jumping up to rescue Mabel from the very pricey lump of french cheese lodging in her throat. Unabashed, she made a graceful social recovery, wagging her tail, and begging for seconds.

I love it.

Well just home and on the computer. Was at my Daughter's with Husband visiting the baby and them now home. I could go back to school as my license is just inactive. I could also volunteer back on a psych floor. So I educate myself and read and respond to posts, offere support when needed, Board is for mutual support and that is my goal. As for meds what I am on is sufficient. Just got done telling my Daughter who manages a store that she does not need any meds as she is quite high functioning. I love riding my bike as I stop to chat with lots of folks and learn new things daily. I would like besides staying up til 3am at night working on ebay to also have some rec time and that is fun time on facebook. Family and friends there. As floating bridge said if you don't wish to don't read my posts and this is my thread. I now know I'm not clinically depressed. Just anxious. I have joined the billions of women and men who wish to enhance their appearances and saved for many years just for this. Sure meds have side effects and I've tried the gambut myself and if I had a side effect as many others here I post it. I'm sure Dr. Bob does not have a problem with this. Phillipa ps my pups are precious

There are so many things that you can do so that you aren't bored. Have you ever thought of volunteering at a hospital? That would be a great idea. Volunteering in general is really important even if it's only a couple of days a week. I am not working right now and if I wasn't volunteer I would be so bored and depressed. You need a chance to get out of your own head. There are also activities you can do in the summer: walk, go for ice-cream, cycle etc. Join a book club! The possibilities are endless. I know you spend a lot of time online, you need to get out more so that you feel more like part of society.

That tells me the type of interaction you are involved in does not exhaust you or challenge you enough to reduce your need to do stimulating and challenging work. Remember, you had all your nursing background which made you someone that thrives on alot of decision making.

When I was recently working (I would not recommend the level of intensity that I was involved with) I would come home so physically and mentally drained that I had not one thought of "boredom" as the job I had could have keep 3 people fully challenged. That is what many of the job demands are like today.

If I were you, I would get a part time job in a hospital using your nursing background, but not having to be licensed, etc. You should check it out. I'm sure they would be happy to have you...how far from a hospital are you located?

You still have it in you to do more than you are currently doing, I hear this in your posts over and over..the desire and need to be useful again.

I know you biking and are very social with others and that is great, as so many of us cannot do that, but you still have the energy and intelligence to need a higher level of stimulation on a daily basis, by which you feel you have worth and value...Perhaps you were disabled long before you should have been. It is not too late to get back and find something that will give you a sense of purpose again, as I know nursing really did this for you.

I'm supporting whatever you do but think you need a higher level of stimulation to give you back some of the self esteem and confidence you got from being a nurse.

Stargazer I know seriously any suggestions of stuff you know? Don't want to go backwards and just sit with psych patients and report back to staff their conversations. My first volunteer job and only as was told get into nursing so did. What I wanted to do here was the admissions. As you know RN's just don't like to do them so timely. I loved doing them as got to really know the patients. Thanks for caring Love Phillipa

Phillipa, I don't understand what you mean about going backwards ... I mean you aren't doing any nursing stuff now. Would you be interested in doing what little you could without a license. I think doing it as a volunteer would be better. You don't have to volunteer in the psych wards. You could volunteer in the maternity unit and rock the little ones. Premature babies especially need so much extra care and you could do great things there. Think of what you could do in the hospital that would help YOU and someone else. I don't think going to the psych unit is a very good idea. You need to get away from that.

I understand that you still need to do your Ebay stuff but you have to admit, you spend a lot of time on this site alone. There is so much else you could do that would be more fulfilling.

Usually my time here is waiting for my pics to post to be uploaded by husband as he's the pic taker and editor of pics. So I come here and for fun facebook. Reconnect with old neighbors, family, and old friends from here. Up late bed 3am. It's a very demanding job. Have to be creative to sell. I have half my neighbors working from home on internet. So it's not uncommon. Ebay is a full time job between shopping and posting, mailing. I kind of like it. Phillipa
