Should I read my old medical records?

Posted by Deneb on May 30, 2010, at 18:26:58

OK, so I was just reminded that I still have a stack of old medical records my retired GP gave to me. It has been sitting in storage for years. Should I read them or give them to my doctor or something?

I can't imagine any of my doctors would really read them, they don't have time for that kind of thing do they?

OK, I just read the parts that were readable.

Apparently my first pdoc wanted to rule out prodromal schizophrenia! Anyways, I was messed up. First pdoc who ever saw me noticed facial grimacing. I think I still do that sometimes! Usually I am having some sort of internal conflict when I do that, like I can't stand something.

Can it be safely said that I am not going to be schizophrenic now? Am I past the danger zone?

Pdoc just asked if I heard voices a few months ago. That does not seem like a comforting question to be asked!

I've only heard voices a few times and as I understand it, they were all within the boundaries of normal. I think I wrote about them. Several times they were of my Mom yelling at me.

I do NOT have any running commentaries, not any that are actual voices anyways. Of course everyone has their own inner voice. Mine is a combination of me and the imaginary Dr. Bob in my head.

I hope I am out of the danger zone! Please reassure me!

okay, you're in the non schizo zone if you:

1. can stay of meds and do washouts, and dont need to be perm on an anti psychotic like me, i had a drug induced psychosis

2. you can function a little in life, go to shops, banks, go out and enjoy yourself

3. you dont do drugs or alcohol

thats about it.. the first fact is most important if you can keep of meds for while youre not the worst case scenario like me

good luck!
