I'm sad NO is over now

Posted by Deneb on May 28, 2010, at 0:03:51

I think I have temporary depression or something because NO was so fun and now it's over.

All I want to do is sleep and I feel so tearful.

I haven't been outside since my trip and skipped Weight Watchers and swim class. I miss Dr. Bob and Dinah and NO.

It feels like there is nothing to look forward to now because probably no one will go to Hawaii.

Is that you two in the picture? Wow, your hair looks longer :-)

Yeah! That is me in the picture. My hair is almost to my waist now. :-) I plan on growing it to terminal length.

I hope terminal length is classic length or beyond.

It was fun wasn't it? I'm sad it was over too. But we've got some fun memories to look back on. I'm so glad I got to meet you, and meet Dr. Bob again.

It's too bad that the next one is in Hawaii. Maybe someone lives there already. Or maybe we could substitute another location for a Babble trip if no one can make Hawaii anyway. Or at least a get-together of a few of us. That's happened before, hasn't it?

That's the two of us. I always hate my pictures, even from the back. I duck them whenever I can. I think Dr. Bob, who loves to take lots of pictures, has more photos of me than my family has had in a year. Mainly because I didn't feel as free to dive behind the nearest object when I saw the camera - or scream NOOOOO!!! and put my face in my hands while letting my hair fall forward. Yes, I really do do that. :)

It was fun listening to Jazz with Deneb and Dr. Bob, though. I had forgotten whether I even liked Jazz, but apparently I do. Especially when it involves songs guaranteed to go straight to the gut of any New Orleanean. :)

Hey! » Deneb

That means next time you hear "Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans, and that's where I left my heart..." you'll feel it in your gut too!

:)

Thank you, Phillipa. It's just shoulder length but it sure does feel long enough in this heat. :)

It sounds like fun. I hope you tell us all about it.

Yeah! Maybe we can meet somewhere else! That would be fun! :-) I'd love to see you again Dinah.

Yes, it has happened before. I met up with some Babblers in DC. I've been to DC twice! Once without Dr. Bob and once with.

Deneb, I was thinking about ways to keep people close even when they're far away.

I know you feel sad right now. But if Dr. Bob is going to be an influence in your life, maybe he could be an influence for the good. Maybe you could take the things you like best about him and use him as a role model. Like... He likes to be active, so maybe if you feel like skipping your swimming class, you could think about what Dr. Bob would do and choose to go instead. Or you could try to cultivate the sense of curiosity, or of compassion, that you so admire in him.

Or maybe you could make a special effort to talk to your Dad every day. I liked what you told me about his (IMO) reasonable level of concern about your trip. It sounded very caring to me.

It could even be something to post about, like a journal. I know if I were Dr. Bob, I'd like to think my influence on others was encouraging rather than something that made them feel sad.

And of course, to paraphrase what I say about my therapist, the Dr. Bob in your head will always know just the right thing to say, and he'll always be there for you. :)

I suppose the idea is that eventually the Dr. Bob (or therapist) in your head becomes part of who *you* are.

Just an idea...

(And of course it's perfectly ok to be sad for a while. I'm not trying to discourage that. Goodness knows, sometimes feeling sad is appropriate.)

Dinah from your self descriptions of yourself you look like a very eloquent Lady. Give yourself credit. Love Phillipa

That's a good idea Dinah. I want to be more like Dr. Bob.

Yeah, I can do that too. It will be weird though. I don't usually talk to my Dad.

Dr. Bob is in my mind I think. Sometimes I talk to him in my mind. He's so fun. :)

You're probably right, Dr. Bob doesn't want me to be sad. I'll try to think of the happy memories instead and look forward to Hawaii!

I need to get a job first. I want to stay in Hawaii for longer. It's going to be so fun! I can't wait!

Someone should come to Hawaii with me.
