I gained weight

Posted by Deneb on May 25, 2009, at 21:05:05

I got off track with Weight Watchers in San Francisco. I gained weight, ate too much. I need to get back on track. I will lose lots of weight. I was doing great before San Francisco, losing about 1.5 pound a week.

I need to get down to 95 pounds. I hope by the next Babble meet I will be less than 100 pounds.

I can't do it by fasting, that never works. I just end up so hungry that I binge. Weight Watchers really works. I follow it and I lose weight. I will follow Weight Watchers and lose weight the healthy way. I need to get back into Weight Watchers. I can do this!

Maybe if you posted that message on the eating board, you'd get some more experienced responses. I've never done weight watchers.

I think it would be a bad idea for me to post on the eating board. I think I trigger people there.

I am going back to the Weight Watchers plan tomorrow.

You must be petite to have a goal at 95 pounds. Do you workout?
I think an enjoyable workout program with a healthy, realistic diet
is the way to go to maintain ideal weight. I don't know much about
weight watcher's. I don't know if I could go without eating exotic foods.

Strength training will do wonders for your figure, and will allow you
to indulge in "yummy" foods and occasional "binges" without set-backs.
I had a half a pizza and chocolate ice cream yesterday, and didn't wake
up with a bulging tummy. I can eat a lot more food with muscle on my
body.

A workout program, even a short one done consistently will:
replace fat with muscles; firm, tighten and tone your body, including
your neck and face(works for me); and help you lose inches of fat even
while resting.

It really works...and you'll feel great about the way you look! You'll sculpt
a toned, svelte body before the next babble meet for sure.

Yeah, I am very short, I'm only 4'11".

Exercise would be good. I think I will start walking/jogging. I will have a lot of time to do this soon as I will be out of a job.

I used to go to the YMCA and it was good, but I had to quit because of costs.

I get exotic foods all the time while on Weight Watchers. It's all about choosing healthy foods with Weight Watcher's, nothing is forbidden. It is basically a form of calorie counting that takes into consideration how healthy a food is.

Oh, I didn't know that about weight watcher's - good deal. Although it wouldn't
work for me as I would fail miserably at calorie counting. Too disorganized.

You're not very short - just very petite. Walking is great because you don't need
to join a club to do it. Far as strength training...just get a set of dumbbells, and
use your own body (i.e. sit-ups, push-ups.) Try it while watching TV. Makes the
workout time fly by and less grueling.

I think it's great that you have a goal to improve yourself!

Most people gain some weight on trips like that. I wouldn't be too concerned.

Yes, Dr. Bob prefers threads about weight loss endeavors go on the Health board. I think you've gotten responses there in the past...?

Of course, here is fine, too :-)

Weight Watchers is good and sound medically. I've done it before. I just can;t dig deep down and find the strength of will to make proper choices day after day. Still hoping some day, but so far, can't do it for any length of time.

Good luck and good for doing it a healthy way, Deneb. You are so right, short term, careful fasts might be okay for spiritual or other reasons, but they are useless for weight loss and just make the body think it's starving, therfore conserving calories.

Very true puts the body into thinking it's in starvation mode. Phillipa

fasting is good if its controlled, mainly do things like plan to only do it one day, or until nighttime. if you know you are going to do it only a length you can deal with, less pressure. and having a healthy meal planned so you don't give in and eat a whole bag of potato chips or whatever.

anyway fasting is more complicated and not really necessary for most people. i do think it can be good to teach yourself to better recognize feeling of hunger. i forget who said but 'eat because you're hungry is as silly as crawling in bed just because you feel tired.' (um, of course there was this:

A student once asked his teacher, "Master, what is enlightenment?"

The master replied, "When hungry, eat. When tired, sleep.")

Fasting one day a week is very healing. It gives the digestive system a rest and allows the body to use energy toward healing. It's also good for maintaining weight loss. Water fasting is hard, but for just one day, it isn't too bad. Still it's best to be around someone else that day in case you get really weak or dizzy.

By the way, I'm not an expert on fasting. The previous post is just my opinion based on personal experience.
