OMGosh, I am multicoloured

Posted by Deneb on May 21, 2009, at 21:34:23

My face is brown now. LOL

There is a clear line on my arm where my T-shirt covered. It is white there and then my sunburn. My sunburn still hurts a little and is still a bit red, but it is turning really brown.

I am muticoloured, maybe I will take a picture of my tan line. LOL Any tricks on getting rid of the tan line? I have a funny white spot where my watch was too. rofl

Deneb is this your first tan? Well the only way to even it out is remove all clothing and nude sunbath without the watch. Seriously most have a tanline if you wear a bathingsuit it will tan around the suit. Phillipa and wear sunscreen.

Eeeew, my skin is peeling off. I am itchy and my skin is peeling. I hope I haven't permanently damaged my skin.

I never stayed out in the sun long enough to burn.

Oh no, I read that sun damage is irreversible. I can see my skin getting wrinkly on my arm.

I'm using sunscreen everyday now and wearing long sleeves. I'm scared. Maybe I will get skin cancer.

Help. I'm scared. My skin is peeling and wrinkly and I have damaged my skin cells' DNA repair mechanisms.

I know UV radiation causes pyrimidine dimers. My skin cells have committed mass suicide because of the damage. I damaged my skin. I've never going out in the sun again. I will live life indoors. I need to buy a hat.

I'm scared.

Hi Deneb,

No, you haven't damaged it. Not permanently anyway.
Just a natural course in the sun-cooking process.

Stay out of the sun until it's completely healed though.
It'll hurt like "acid on an open-wound" if you burn it
again before it heals.

Holy batcave! Must have been one heck of a trip.
Lucky you didn't get a hangover from mixing beer
and champagne...definitely worse than a sunburn.

Don't worry. You're going to be fine.

Thanks again for the SanFran posts!

Help! I am freaking out

I'm scared. I don't want to die from cancer. I think I'd rather kill myself. I'm scared.

Sorry, I didn't mean to bring death into this.

I have to think rationally. I will be OK. There is a lot of evidence that melanoma isn't even caused my sun damage and the other forms of skin cancer are very treatable if caught early. I just need to wear sunscreen and cover up from now on and watch my skin closely.

I will be OK. Deep breaths. Will be OK.

Still scared though.

You are not going to get cancer and die, Deneb.

The risk of skin cancer is associated with multiple
skin burns. One time is not going to cause cancer.

Okay, I thought I'd better check and called my
Dermatologist friend. He said that it's unusual to
develop skin cancer after one sunburn, and he
himself has never encountered this in his practice.

I bet you'll forget all about this once you heal.

You'll be fine.

Thanks globbledygook

I was stupid. I though since I have black hair and tan easily that I wouldn't get burned. I guess I have just never stayed out in the sun long enough to burn. I am not very outdoorsy.

I'm going to wear sunscreen everyday now. I am not taking any chances of more damage.

I just learned you can get damage even on cloudy days.

And Asians are not immune to sunburn, obvious now.

Stupid me didn't even think to bring sunscreen on my trip. I don't usually wear it.

i got sunburned last weekend. I even thought to put on sunburn lotion but i only put on easily burned places like face, ears, shoulders. so i have splotchy burn line between there and my arms and my chest and back. oops.

it will heal, with some time. keep it moisturized, use aloe and asparin if you need it. the skin will be weird for a bit, since it causes lots of inflammation.

cancer isn't really about burns as much as total UV. and anyway, for most people the extra vitamin D means less cancer and this more than offsets the risk from the uv. i think the main risk from burning is in childhood.
