Leave Sunday/ update /feeling unsettled rant

Posted by Kath on May 22, 2009, at 12:09:09

She has a computer, so it's not as though I won't have computer access! But I might not get around to it.

It's a 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive (depending on how fast ya drive). If I had the energy I'd drive, but I'd rather sit for an hour in a comfortable GO-bus, then take the ViaRail train from Union Station in Toronto. That's what I'm going to do. Leaving on Sunday, then coming back the next Sunday.

I had been feeling edgy about not being here 'for' my son during his challenge of coming to terms with exGF's return, how it might affect his life, etc. He's feeling somewhat better now - a fair bit, actually. Last nite he said that it's really difficult, but he's surprised that he's doing as well as he is. I think doing the 'guest speaker' at the CMHA family information meeting did wonders for him.

He's also looking at renting a house with a friend who used to live at the 'rooming house' where my son lived. That's in process. It triggers me big-time - I think due to that cat-pee-smell-apt situation in October that was so awful. I'm also anxious as it'll be tight financially for him until he gets work on top of his disability (he's allowed to make a certain amount on top of it).

I'm feeling edgy today & sorta anxious & depressed. I had been sick Tuesday & I think maybe it's not completely gone. Also went last nite to the Family (parents') Group. I usually go for the CBT one but got the weeks mixed up & it was just talking & sharing & I found it really upsetting. One lady's son is SO mentally ill right now. I think it stirred things up for me & last night son stayed up all night & didn't go to the YMCA training, as he'd planned to - I think that's bothering me a lot.

My son says he's fine with me being away for a week; not to worry. I said I'd like to have my cellphone turned off; was that cool? & he said yeah definitely.

So THAT's good!!

Just spoke with him & he's really interested in getting involved with speaking to youth - probably about how much trouble doing drugs can get you into.

I'm pleased to hear that! & the reason He stayed up last night was - he went for a long walk for exercise before bed; stayed up a little, but then couldn't get to sleep.

Does anyone know if exercising before bed is bad for getting to sleep? He said he thot it'd help him get tired?

I'm sorry I haven't been here for you too much lately - I've been trying to work part time, look for work, and battle depression (which is going better BTW), but I've also been trying to keep up with reading your posts. It sounds like your son is doing okay. You'll always worry about him, but ultimately, its up to him how he decides to live his life. You can only give him support and encouragement. I hope you have a wonderful time seeing your daughter. She lives in London? Seriously? I would LOVE to go there! Try to enjoy yourself, you deserve it.

~~ Not a problem at all TC. Keeping you in my thoughts. Thx for reading my soapopera!

~~ Yeah - he's doing way better than he was. He's really interested in getting involved in public speaking, particularly to high school students about the harms drugs can do etc. SO ironic - but he HAS cut WAY back over the past weeks!! Jeez. Thx for wisely reminding me. I am embarrassed, as I'm sure this won't be the last reminder I'll need! lol

~~~ London, ONTARIO - Canada!!! Not in England. THAT would kick royal a**
Try to enjoy yourself, you deserve it.
~~ Thx TC - I think I'll enjoy myself. It's too bad that my mental state depends a lot on his, but right now - his is pretty GOOD!!!
~~ Not yet - I go Sunday mid-day. By train - am excited about that.
Thx so much about the exercise info. I told my son!!! That makes sense why he couldn't sleep last nite.
Phillipa, why does it affect us like that?
hugs, Kath
~~ Yeah - but my daughter has a computer. I'll probably check, as PB is such a part of my life. I can't imagine having access to the internet & NOT checking at least twice during the week. Now in June, when DH & I rent a cottage on the Bruce Penninsula, I do NOT think we'll have internet access!!
((you))
luv, Kath
You are such a good mum, Kath. I can tell.
Sounds like you have good connections with
your kids. They're lucky!
Oh, and about exercising at night - I think it
depends on the person. I used to think my
insomnia was due to my exercising at night,
then I found out caffeine from coffee, tea and
chocolate-too late in the day, was the culprit.
Hope you have a safe trip and have fun with
your daughter.
Bon Voyage!
Ava
