I'm back in Ottawa now

Posted by Deneb on May 20, 2009, at 1:05:24

Yay! This trip was really fun and really boosted my self confidence. I am very capable of taking care of myself and finding my way around. Everything went flawlessly. All my plans were great.

I'm a capable, competent woman and I think I can travel anywhere alone. Amazingly I was not anxious at all on my own. I didn't even have trouble sleeping. Everything was great.

My flight my SF to Toronto was delayed and they first told me I had missed my connecting flight. I would have had to stay in a hotel, and I was not at all anxious about it. I feel like I can handle all problems with confidence. The plane decided to wait for me, fortunately, but I was able to handle the unexpected with no anxiety.

Overall it was a great trip and I had a great time.

I, for one, am extremely proud of you - not that this matters too terribly much. You did everything exactly right. Now you have a wealth of good memories and a sense of empowerment.

You are the real deal!

Thanks for posting so frequently about your trip.

Holy Smokes Deneb!!

How's this whole trip for a 'reference point' to always have in your awareness of not only your capabilities, but how much pleasure you can have when you go with your own judgement & wishes....when you follow your own personal dreams!

YAY for you!!! Sounds like you dealt VERY well with an experience that would have most people sweating buckets (the whole thing about the delayed flight/connecting flight, etc).

It's delightful to hear you recognizing & SAYING all those great true things about yourself.

As those cigarette ads years ago used to say, "Baby, you've come a LONG way!"

So happy for you Deneb!

love, Kath

PS - in our family, we have little code-words or letters for certain events/situations that have happened in the past. They capture a whole situation briefly. "Is that a 'velcro'?" "Remember the cross-bow?" are a couple.

In your own mind, when you have something you want to do, or when someone is giving you advice that feels NOT what you want for yourself, you now could remind yourself by thinking something referring to this trip. For ex, "Remember SF" or "Is this a SF situation?" This could be so useful in continuing to build your self-confidence in creating the kind of life that YOU want for yourself.

xoxo K

Ditto to everything Scott said.

Yay! Wow, what a great thing to have such a self-confidence booster. That's what I was thinking about for my road trip--that doing it successfully, and with joy, would really help my doldrums. Thanks for posting about your trip--it gave me the idea to ask for feedback here, and to really think seriously about putting a trip together. Sounds like you had fun!!!

Yes, thanks for posting about your trip.
I really enjoyed reading about it.

Bob likes champagne? Now I'll think of
him drinking champagne at his computer
deeply pondering whether to issue blocks
or not - while frantically punching in
numbers into his handy dandy block calculator.
LOL.

Seriously, trips have a wonderful way of
transforming you...I'm glad yours brought
self-confidence and fun!

Hope your sunburn feels better.

It's true each time you travel you come back so much stronger. How many attended the trip? Did you get the chocolate? Love Phillipa

That's wonderful, Deneb!

I felt the same way about soldering. Everytime I face something difficult, I think to myself, if I soldered I can do anything.

Congrats deneb - You are an inspiration. Its what I need to try more. Live my life and not let the disease control everything. I avoid so many things so as not to wake the anxiety beast. I think if we lose the will to try, even if we fail at times, we have given up. Great job.
Dave
