Posted by manic666 on May 16, 2009, at 15:59:38

i went to my p doc , as i received a letter to but back my appiontment 6 weeks because of there holiday rota, thinking the c.b.t theropist had put on my file about pyhco theropy she said i needed . but true to english shrink crap nothing had been added.he said to me what can i do manic i said tell me the cause of this illness . he said no joke , why does a duck swim , wwwwwwhat i said so it dont sink, but he ment like how long is a piece of string sort of thing, he said you meds ok , i said 75% which is cool for are brains.he said tell me what you want me to do .i said do i need phyco theropy, he said do you think you do , i said is this a quiz,he said then what do you think is the cause is.i thought this is hard work , but carried on . i said i have childhood issues an bad upbringing an a sh*t old man .he said most start in childhood , an there is a misconception that a few sessions with a theropist an the world is ok.if that were true we would all be millionaires,im lossing the will to live at this time, i said is it a chemical imbalance , he said could be . but we dont no or can prove that, then he gave me another one why is your hair brown????eeeeer coss im not bald , nnno he said its another mistory.what he is trying to say in his ham fisted way is sh*t happens to people an we havent a clue why, all we can do is medicate you an hope it works other than that ,well there is no other than that, science is no nearer finding out each an every ones brain than cureing cancer.he openly addmitted his profession no very little. to witch i replied so i will be medicated the rest of my life. he said most probably, i said in that case take me of the hospital books as my gp can prescribe the same meds , without a long wait for an appointment,he said ok manic but you no were i am , i left thinking are you sure about that doc.

Hi Manic,

Sounds like a "crazy-making" appointment!

If you had a crap old-man & crap childhood, I'd say psychotherapy would be good, myself. You could see what people on the Psychology board think.

I am not sure - is it depression you're diagnosed with? (if you feel like saying). If it is, I do NOT believe that you would need to be on meds forever. I was on Celexa for - I don't know - 5 years or something. I've been off them for about 4 years or so now. Sure I get depressed in the winter months (SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder), & must admit that the winter before this past one, I was ALMOST considering going back on meds. But they screwed up my memory so badly that I was afraid to. So I looked into alternative treatments, including a light lamp, 5HTP & St. John's Wort as well as homeopathic medicine. Sorry for going on & on.

Anyway, sounds like you're doing C.B.T? If so, what do you think? I'm finding it is helping me.

I'm glad the doc left the door open for you, so to speak.

:-)) Kath

Hey manic, sounds like a frustrating appointment?? I wish we could just delete all the negative crap from our memory....might help with our recovery, hell we probably wouldn't need meds!
You probably have a good idea of what to try so it might be easier seeing your GP instead of waiting forever to see a p/doc with no answers?
Hows the zoloft going? I've been on and off it for 10 years, mostly on but I've tried a few others. Always end up coming back to the zoloft. I use to take 100mg for years but cut down to 50 mg about 6 months ago... works the same if you ask me with less side-effects.
Good chatting with ya, hang in there my friend. I've got 2 german shepherds so when things get bad, I know they are always ready to help... love their walks!!
Take care, Rick

i have finished my ctb . it wasnt good for me but a lot of ladies found i really helped.i was the only guy in the class ,so i was mothered , a lot had big BIG issuses with panick attacks an that was the main course . one lady finished up going to a bar with a friend an doing things she had not done for years , some were not so good , my main problem is anxierty an the depression that follows,im ok with soicial stuff yes, but this is a liftime thing that i have, if i no its from childhood ,like the doc said i can tell you that as well as a theropist , that an chemical impalance , what more could he say , i was happy to stay on the med , not over the moon but ok.you see i dont pay its free on the nhs . if i had payed it would be a hole different ball game to get to the same answer

ok rick ,yes the zoloft is the best ive had for a long time on test runs, i still have 4 ativan but take 2mg early morn an 2 mg about 8 pm to chilli like to think they work but probably not now. an watch tv till 12pm then i can sleep,i like you dropped to 50mg on the zoloft . you a dead man walking on 100, the hospital has left me wasted but i cant keep going though the same old sh*t ,an remember the once near as killed me im damaged from that.zoloft reminds me of prozac , the only med to help when it first came out , but when it went ginentic , if you didnt get the real prozac you crashed i did, it took the same time to work zoloft an prozac a good 12 weeks i think a lot give up but its not a med that hits you sraight away , an there are not to many side effects so i say to any one, stick it out , was it the same for you.

Hey manic, ya, when I first started zoloft, I felt really agitated, lots of anger for the first month or so. I think it took about 2 - 3 months before it started helping with my anxiety / panic attacks. I still take clonazepam though, 0.5 mg 2 or 3 times a day. But I agree, zoloft has worked best for me out of all the antidepressants I've tried with the least amount of side-effects.

Oh ya, I was thinking about your last p/doc appointment and when he asked you if you know why ducks swim?? You should of said "no I don't, please tell me ya quack quack!!!

Have a good day manic........ Rick

It seems to me like the doc was just being straight with you. Psychiatry is a crap shoot. Nobody really knows how or why we get sick. Is it a developmetal thing or biochemical? Or both? Or neither? Nobody knows. Meds are hit-and-miss. One might get you better and change your life, one will make you worse. Nobody really knows how they work.

Even though your symptoms might trace back to your past and childhood history - don't discount the ability of meds to eliminate your symptoms. Some lucky people have their ailments completely disappear with meds. Keep trying, observing, making deductions, hypotheses. It is a crapshot but if you keep rolling you will eventually hit double six.

If you pdoc doeas a lot of research and is willing to try new and better combos on you, stick with him/her. Even if he/she is a bit cynical.

hey i no hes right , i carnt see the point in a theropist telling you what you already no,but the combo,s are out in england its one med at a time thats it, an the meds you get are avalable from the gp.plus with the 4 mg aday ativan ,i carnt loose, then its a no no. the gp sent me to the p doc after years of trying meds, only to find they hospital use,s the same meds.as i say i told the p doc to put me on zoloft after you guys gave it the green light, he said citalopam i said no that is weight gaining drug ,like no other,so if im telling him what drug , i may as well tell my gp at least he noes my name .

Hey manic, yes a 3 yr old male and a 2 year old female. There are west-german / black and red from champion blood lines. I bought them from a top breeder in central Canada and had them flown to my home when they were 12 weeks old. I took them to Agility once a week and entered them in competitions, it was a blast.... but they haven't been in over 6 months now!! Cause of my damn depression/anxiety, poor dogs, not fair to them but yet they still show that unconditional love.
They sleep in the house if it's too cold outside, or in the backyard if it's nice. My 2 daughters and I like taking them for walks down to the river, lots of family fun. Yes my buddy, nothing like animals to help us feel better.
Take care my friend.
