Pottery Sale set-up Wed- I'm READY + happy!!

Posted by Kath on May 5, 2009, at 20:51:45

It's Tuesday nite - not even 10 pm yet & I am READY!!!!

This is flippin' unheard of!! Well, I have to put the boxes into the car, but OH MY GOD.

Everything made, priced, entered in inventory data base.

Also - my friend told me her secret to simplicity..... I got strong, low, large vegetable boxes from the No Frills store. I packed my pottery into them - AND once unpacked at set-up, I'll flip the boxes & put them on my table with nice cloths draped over them to provide a variety of levels to display my pottery on!!!

Also, usually I put my jewellry into very pretty little gift boxes, but the table gets cluttered looking. This year, I bought a large piece of lovely black material - sort of light-weight with crinkly lines to it. It will be GREAT to put my metallic-coloured Raku & Raku jewellry on.

Excitement!!! & also calmness! WHAT a combination!

Hi All,

Thanks for your support & interest!

I got set up. My pottery friend (who I do Raku with) was a TREMENDOUS help & she probably put about 2/3 or my items out nicely for me! I sometimes sort of freeze & just do NOT know how to set things up. Once she had done it, I could go ahead & shift things around a bit if I wanted. I'm quite pleased with how the table looks (I have 1 1/2 tables this time).

Angela - nice to see you around again.

hugs to all, Kath

PS - The actual sale begins tomorrow at 10 am. Usually there's a line-up of 'the regulars' waiting for the doors to open. I think they want to get the best selection! LOL

There aren't as many potters in the sale this time, so it means those of us who ARE in it have a much larger chance of selling stuff.

I am doing a shift tomorrow from 1:30 to 5. I'll be wrapping stuff as it is sold. I love doing wrapping. I get to see & touch everything that's been sold. I also like interacting with people in that type of way ...... they've just bought some nice stuff that they like, either for themself or as a gift. I like being friendly with them. Wrappers ask if they'd like a 'gift card'. When people say (sometimes sheepishly) "No - it's for me!" I always say something like, "Good for you!" or "That's wonderful - enjoy". It's basically a pleasant experience.

That sounds like so much fun Kath. I can't imagine how it must feel to sell one of your own creations. It sounds wonderful.

22 items sold already at the sale (plus the 4 brooches that people at my Group Therapy bought when I took them for "look how I pulled myself forward & started to LIVE my own life!!" announcement & show & tell!!

I am QUITE pleased. Especially about a lovely oval container that has decorational handles on each side & I raku-fired it. It has brilliant bright rich 'oil-spilled-on-water' colours. If it was sold in a boutique it would cost a LOT, but our sale is mainly people wanting mugs, casseroles, functional stuff, so I priced it at $38 - but I am really pleased that it sold. For an 'art' type piece to sell in our sale is a pretty big deal!!!!!!! Yayyyy.

Is it in bad taste to tell how much I made???

I'm not being braggy. I am just pretty excited. I've made more already than I usually do at the Spring sale. (Fall sale sells more due to Christmas shopping)

Anyway, it ends tomorrow at 5 pm so there's still this evening & tomorrow. I only sold 4 pieces so far today. The first day is often my best day.

TC + P My friendly fish have found a new home!

2 of the things I sold were Raku fish.

I put clay through the 'slab roller' - to make it thin & flat, then took it home.
Cut the shape of a fish - about 8 inches long & looking at it from the side.
Made it's eye closed - like a round line with lashes, then made a smiling mouth - made 'scales' with a straw.

Made another. Then let the clay harden a bit, then lifted it up so it was sitting on it's 'tummy'. Then curved it sort of like a letter S. so it could sit there by itself steadily.

I've had them for a while, so when I saw that they'd sold it was like having my 2 friendly fish adopted by someone who must have liked them! It was the strangest, but nice feeling!

PS - thx for your interest :-))

Thx you guys.

Yup now I can relax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've just done most of the checking the not sold pieces against the printed inventory. That feels good. I've packed them into boxes ready for next year. It feels good to be this organized.

Thx for your support.

I now have tons of photos in My Documents, on my computer under Pictures.

I am somewhat computer-savvy. But don't really know where to go from here.

Any suggestions?

Picturetrail and Photobucket both allow free accounts. Or at least they did last time I checked.

Once you register they pretty much walk you through the process of adding photos. :)

my pottery.

I'm using "Picasa" - part of GMail (which is my email). It'll take a little while, because I have to open a NEW Gmail account, because I don't want my actual name to be part of the link address for the pottery!! Too much personal info in my "tell-all" posts!!!!!!!!!

I'm working on pics of my jewellry first. It's rather labour intensive because I have to make all the photo files smaller first because they're huge! LOL

So pics WILL be available. Thx for your interest.

I hope one day soon to have my first real stained glass project done. Well, maybe not very soon. If I don't hate it, I'll post pictures too. :)

You are a potterer? THAT is so cool!! And it sounds like you are having lots of success with it! Good for you!!!

I love, love art. I wish I were any good at it. It seems much more restorative than writing, which is my game.

Anyway, hope to see a link soon!!!

Yup I'm a putterer in clay. :-)

I have my "Picasa" album partly made.
Made a jewellry one. I have only partly gone through to make the picture all 'actual size'. But I think I'll put the link here anyway. Then people can have a look. People have been wanting to see my pottery for years!

I'll try to put the link here & see if it works. I'll be making other 'albums' also. I make other stuff than jewellry, but for now, I'm going to see if this Picasa thing works. It's a part of G-Mail.

:-)) Kath

PS - what do you write?
