Why oh why didn't I take the BLUE pill? (trigger)

Posted by finelinebob on January 11, 2007, at 2:34:07

Okay Coppertops, time to make a choice, should you decide to pick up the challenge (to paraphrase Morpheus):

"This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes."

Actually, you take the blue pill and you get to lead a normal life. And I **do** mean NORMal, in the strictest normative statistical sense. Average job. Average salary. Average looks & personality. Average sponse and family. Average home. Average hobbies. Average take on how well the President is doing. Average height for your weight, or weight for your height.

Average degree of happiness and/or sadness and/or satisfaction. Welcome to the Matrix.

You take the RED pill, you get to stay as you are, knowing that you have a disability that can be fatal at times, but looking back through history it is the one thing for certain, at the least, that you have in common with some of the most artistic, talented, brilliant, inspiring people who ever lived ... and if you can survive yourself, perhaps you'll be one of them, too -- even if only to one other person.

I already know Kay Redfield Jameson's answer (and you do, too, if you read An Unquiet Mind ... and I just love her take on why she refuses to describe her condition as "bipolar" as opposed to "manic-depressive").

No, I don't know my answer. For certain. It changes.

Can I take half of each one and be semi-normal?

mmmmm I think red. I want to stay in wonderland. Why would you want to be average in every way when you could be great in your own way?

Aah great saying and writing, i already took the red, white, yellow, pink, and green and wish I could accept the blue. I just want to be put back and wake up with no memory of it, make me rich too, like a movie star or something.

The problem with the question is that "there is no going back" built into it.

I was taking the "blue" one for quite a while - I needed it to survive.

But after a few years and some stabilization I started feeling that my senses were too dulled {and my life, too} so I've started weaning myself off. Just a bit at a time so there isn't a shock to the system.

I do a half a pill now.

I guess I would say

huh? I'm not hungry, why must I eat this thing?

or I'm starving--- gimme a couple of both and some for the road.

meanwhile, my pills are very boring, except for the cymbalta ones. They are kiwi green and navy blue and go "shaky shaky" like a tiny little maraca when I shake them in my 10 pm reggae medication dance.

Phillipa, this is a reference from the movie "The Matrix". In the movie, life as we know it is really a dream produced by machines to keep us stable and unconscious while they use our bodies for energy. The main character is given the choice to either wake up and live in the real world, which is very harsh and consists of an apocalyptic fight of man against these machines (with the odds against mankind), or to go back to sleep and dream the dream that everything is normal. He is to make his choice by choosing either the blue pill (keep sleeping) or the red pill (wake up). Good movie, you should see it!
