Another Jay Female Distress Call for Help...

Posted by Jay on January 6, 2007, at 8:18:10

OK....so I start college this past week. And... in my chosen program, there are about 3-4 guys and 40 females. Something has happened, that is kinda deja-vu from the last time I was in college about 1,000...no..lol...11 years ago. There is this one person, and I keep on bumping into her, and she always keeps on giving me that same smile and..ummm.."look".(Maybe she thinks.."Oh..that poor old freak..".hahaaa!) Now, of course, I know this likely means nothing...and I am going to just smooth sail as we are going to be in the same program for a number of years. But it would be nice to start off in a friendship with her and see what happens. At my grand old age of 37 going on 38...ughhh...I am in no hurry..lol. What is really freaky to me is that, I will be a 40 year old graduate.

So, anyhow...I think I am doing things right, eh? School takes up a majority of my time now, so I am not so idle and don't spend so much time thinking about "things"..which sometimes lead me down a bad road. I have a bit of a ride to and from college, so I bring all (well SOME) of my cd's, and crank and blast the music and scream my family jewels off along with them. (Air guitar solo's on major highways can be tricky!!..lol.)

So...weather and sports, next.

Jay :)

Jay so 40 to graduate isn't old I was 38 when got out of school. And maybe now you'll have a reall friendship with a girl. Glad you sound happy about going back to school. What are you taking? Love Phillipa

No better place to meet members of the opposite sex than school. But you're right. You've got a long time to get to know her as friends. And try to hang out with as many of your classmates as you can while you're at it. It's an opportunity that may or may not come your way again, but take advantage of it.

My husband was my friend for a good year before I had any notion at all of dating him. Sometimes these things are lightning quick, but sometimes you find your life partner slowly as you grow to know each other.

Hi Jay,

Maybe form a study group with her (and a few other people so it isn't obvious?)

I am in a certificate program and have three classes to finish before the end of summer. I will not be 50 and in school, so trust me you graduating at 40 isn't so bad. Of course, I'll still be 50 and unemployed or in another mindless job, but at least I won't be in school. Now that's optimism (mixed with sarcasm.)

Remember when she smiles at you, flash a big smile back at her.

If you don't go to school you'll be 40 in a few years anyway but WITHOUT a degree. So the real question is, do you want to be a 40 year old graduate or a 40 year old drop out?

Good luck with the chic!

If she doesn't laugh at your jokes, move on.

Do the 'sparks' settle down????

Hi Jay,
I'm not sure if you're 'talking' with this person, or if it's just a smile & a look at this point? So she's in your class? I think it sounds like a great idea to make some friends among your classmates to the extent that your time allows it. Nothing wrong with, 'hey, wanna grab a coffee?' etc.

I agree with Dinah about friends first.

My husband & I were friends first & I think it's great because you KNOW that you've got a good solid base to settle back into when the sparks settle down if you do end up having more than a friendship.

Should I say 'if' the sparks settle down?

Kath
