Hooray!!! I found my Epilady!

Posted by Dinah on February 24, 2006, at 12:02:05

Is anyone else old enough to remember Joan Rivers (or was it Saturday Night Live?) and "Is it Murder, or Is it Epilady?"

lol.

Seems to be just right for my chin though. So hooray. I can't afford electrolysis.

Don't do it, Dinah!!!! Torture isn't allowed in this country.

I had one of those awful devices when they first came out. I don't know what I did with it, but if I ever see it again, I'm going to roll over it with my car or something.

I like you too much to see you suffer at the hands of an EpiLady. I would only recommend use of it to my worst enemies. Come to think of it, even they don't deserve that kind of treatment.

:-(

Okay, okay. I have some hair removal issues.

lol. I haven't used it since I first got it when it first came out. But for some reason I kept it.

Such a small area wasn't *too* bad, but I must confess it got my blood pumping. Maybe I should get a doctor's permission and a checkup before using it again. :)

I wore mine out and got a new one.
I must have become used to the pain. It's easier than tweezing, for me.

How does the Epilady work? I've never heard of it. Does it pluck hairs out or something? How does it do that?

I'm not quite sure how it works. It appears to have a rotating head that grabs hair and yanks it out.

Why not try laser theraphy it also removes hair. No pain either and it's not that expensive. Fondly, Phillipa

Not sure. I found mine in with my exercise clothes, and I couldn't possibly have used them before the mid nineties. :)

I was told by the person offering it that laswer therapy might not work because the hair is too light. It's really too light to worry about visually, but I hate it when my chin hairs blow in the breeze.

I'm really not sure I can afford laser therapy or electrolysis either.

I'm walking around with half blonde hair, because I'm leary of coloring it myself, and I don't want to spend the $$$ my old stylist charged (if I can track her down and if she's still here) and I'm scared stiff of trying an inexpensive salon. I've still got the uneven blunt cut.

Sigh. I'm paying for past monetary excesses.

Suddenly, a tune comes to mind. Only those old enough to recall the TV series "Greatest American Hero" - and its theme song - will have any hope of getting this.....

****warning - extremely cheesy, corny lyrics below!!***

"Believe it or not,
it's still yanking hairs

You'd think by now we would all be free
But skin must be smooth
And they still don't care,
To what degree
We scream from the pain, cry: Ow-weeeee!!"

{sorry - off the cuff attempt...what else fits AND rhymes with *free*, da*n it??!!)

I've got my Epilady, and an Emjoi

I finally replaced my Epilady with an Emjoi. I don't know why, but the rotating head on the Epilady stopped grabbing hairs. {shrug} So, got the Emjoi, which has a different kind of hair grabbing technology.

I like it. Less messy than waxing, and I don't have to wait for wax to melt, so I can do it whenever.

I do wonder what our use of these machine says about our tolerance for pain!
I generally think I'm a big crybaby but I have no problem using my Epilady. Hmm.

Do y'all have a problem with the hairs growing back beneath the top layer of skin?

I think that may have been the real reason I stopped using it, because I rather prided myself in my ability to endure pain for beauty at that point in my life. (Hard to believe, isn't it? Although I always made an exception for shoes. If my feet are miserable so am I.)

Yes, sometimes I get ingrown (notgrown? undergrown?) hairs. If I remember to exfoliate regularly, even just with a washcloth, it fixes itself. Of course I have a hard time remembering why exactly I'm standing in front of the bathroom sink, but that's another subject.

Yes, I too no longer suffer humbly with pinched toes! My bunions were really gross and I never want to go through that agony again. Even though they weren't caused by Bad Shoes, I know they weren't helped by them. I can't LOOK at some shoes now without feeling phantom pains.
