Crawfish Barn and Mardi Gras

Posted by lynn971 on February 25, 2006, at 1:47:56

I went out with the girls tonight. We had a blast. Our boys played a play off game in basketball. We won!!! Sha my boys. I think they are mine b/c I teach them. They are all African American and I am white, but they are my babies. lol

We then went to the Crawfish Barn to eat boiled crawfish. Awsome!

We then went to down town Mamou, Louisiana. Mardi Gras is now kicking up. We had a blast. It almost felt like New Orleans. That small town fills up fast for Mardi Gras. Thousands of people from out of town and out of state come. It is amazing. This little town does not even have a McDonalds. When Mardi Gras comes, you cannot even use a cell phone b/c there are thousands of people in the small area.

Sunday we will have Mardi Gras in the small area where I am from. We have a big party because it is no use trying to leave the house. If you dont leave by a certain time, you are not getting out. So we just join in on the party. The parade passes in front of my house. It is truelly Cajun Style. The horses pass and we throw a chicken for them to chase. It is really neat. Ok. I hope Peta in not reading this.

Ok. I have said enough.

Love you guys,
Lynn

Sounds like grand fun!

It sounds like the sort of fun my great great grandfather might have had in Chacahoula. (sp?)

I haven't been to a parade yet. I rarely do. But my poor son gets to go to one tomorrow, and meet the friend that moved to Texas besides! He's been looking forward to it for months.

I don't want to be a wet blanket, i don't!
And it's obvious you're a nice person Lynn, so this isn't going to change my opinion, I want to make that clear.

But when I read that my heart just sank.
How can watching a terrified animal be fun?
I truly don't get it, I mean that. If anyone has answers I'd like to hear them, cause this isn't a politically correct admonishment, hearing that story makes me feel ill.

Maybe I am too sensitive, in that regard I don't know, but I feel sick after reading something like that.
It kinda reminds me of bear baiting.

The men chase the chicken. It is a tradition as old as Louisiana itself. When I really stop to think about it, you are right. We threw a chicken once at my house several years ago. We are not this year and probably never again. I do see your point.

I am sorry that you are offended.

peace,
Lynn

No Lynn, you didn't offend me.
That kind of thing is everywhere, but I just don't understand enjoying it, it just makes me feel sick (like I said)
And I"m sure in the wild animals feel just as much fear every day, but I was really curious about how it's seen as fun.

So please, I really didn't want it to look like I was admonishing you.

You did not offend me. I know that your heart is sweet. I really see where you are coming from, and I did not think of the chicken being scared. You are absolutely right. I am not a vegetarian, but I could not be the one to kill the animal either. I just dont think about those things.

Around here hunting is a big deal. I could not go shoot an animal.

Your friend,
Lynn

Your're lucky to live in a place that has true traditions. They have a Mardi Grais on 6th street in Austin. Last year a minor riot broke out and people got maced. The small towns in LA are best. At one time I knew the Mamou two-step...

Have fun, Jake

You know about the Mamou Two step!!! Awsome!!!

I live 15 minutes away from Momou. Tonight there are thousands of people in Mamou.

Have you ever heard of "Fred's Lounge"?

No, I don't know Fred's Lounge, but it sounds like I need to be there right now! I've been to a well known dance place in Breaux Bridge, can't think of the name now. That's cool that you live in SW LA.
