My pdoc left town. Waaaaahhhhh.

Posted by Dinah on February 24, 2006, at 17:58:59

I've lost most of my doctors. This one was up in the air, but I just got the letter.

Sigh. It's not like I had any particular liking for him, but I wasn't scared of him and he understood that medications have side effects. I've got an appointment with one of the doctors he recommended, but... Well, I don't like many mental health professionals. I see a raft of very expensive first appointments ahead of me. :(

I think the final count is in.

In the same time period, I lost 3 psychiatrists
1 chronic fatigue specialist
1 urologist
1 optometrist
2 gasteroenterologists

all because I'm (they) a jerk. But, I have more just a provider list away. I'm sorry you lost good ones, and will have trouble finding new good ones. All will come together. It always does.

By the way, I did regain an old (we'll call her gdoc 1 and 4) gastrologist, and got my eyes permanently fixed with a good opthamologist. If the services you need are not available in your area, I think your insurance is supposed to pay for travel and out of network, so come stay in a nice hotel and go to the medical center once a week.

Wow. I almost never change doctors. Some of them I wasn't even crazy about, but I would have probably never bothered changing. The opthalmologist was wonderful. I've been going to him for twenty years, I'll bet. I suppose I'd have lost him soon anyway. I don't know how I'll replace him.

The headache neurologist was fairly recent, but I adored her. If she was a therapist, I'd leave my therapist for her. She reminded me of a therapist in a lot of ways. She got my headaches under control, so I probably don't need her anymore. My new internist can take over my meds.

The internist and gynecologist probably weren't huge losses. I've already replaced them.

My big problem is with medications. I'm on a plethora of them, and it's a bit hard to explain to new doctors. Then there was this huge mixup with my internist that ended up with my doubling up on prescriptions. She probably thinks I'm drug seeking.

Oh Dinah. I'm sorry. I'm glad you told us, though. You should send this info to your legislator, too. I think it's one of those hidden costs that folks don't realize.

Such a tremendous, wide-ranging, and long-term impact. It's still hard to take in for those of us not in the midst.

Hang in there.

There has been a huge doctor exodus. For a while there there were notices in the paper every day. My internist wasn't actually flooded. But she said she just doesn't feel secure here anymore. They have portable skills and would rather feel secure somewhere else.

My mother has some doctors who have decided the cost of private practice is too high with that kind of risk, and have joined up with a local hospital clinic. I think that's also happened a lot.

Oh Gosh you poor thing. Virtual hugs. Ya know, funny this thing just happened to me this past week. Finally found a local internist and I find out Monday well you have to see the Nurse practictioner because your doc is leaving the practice and we just found out. I had only been seeing him for two months and he was actually a good doc and was respectful. SO, I don't know if I am gonna stay and see the NP for awhile, or what. There is now only 1 doc in the doc office and I hate getting to know new doctors. I hope you can maybe find another doc that can help you with everything so you don't have to pay out to see so many different docs. Good luck. and Peace

I wish you good luck as well. New doctors of any sort are a pain. New psychiatrists are a huge pain.

I also wanted to thank you for revealing your former name. I know it's not required and I know people have good reasons for changing their names sometimes, but I confess that it makes me feel warmer and more trusting. :)
